A week later the Guild was fully operational, and the thieves were settled in and now had a routine. Yesterday Caine declared jobs available for any thieves who wanted to make coin for themselves. Today was the start of something great, Caine just knew it.
Caine turned the smallest room in the factory into a Meeting Room, a place where he summoned thieves for certain jobs. Digger entered the room and sat across from him, the young man was the first to apply for a big job. Caine had a particular item he wanted and he figured Digger would be the perfect thief for the job.
"You wanted to see me Boss?" Doug said as he looked around the room.
It wasn't as well decorated as the rest of the factory, Caine kept it simple with two bookshelves, a wooden chest, a desk and two chairs. Nothing fancy or extravagant.
"I want you to steal a golden ruby necklace from Lady Camlet. Do you know the woman?" Caine answered, giving the man his task.
"I have seen her buying silk gowns in the Market Square." Digger replied. "A golden ruby necklace aye? Consider it done."
Caine knew the man wouldn't refuse the challenge. One thing the thieves have been informed about was that some missions required a thief to roleplay as somebody else until the item was acquired. Never giving their real names.
"Good! Because you're going to be portraying Lord Evanston, wealthy and a womaniser. I'm sure you know what you have to do to get the necklace..." Caine winked with a grin.
Lady Camlet was known for being flirtatious and one to mess around with men behind her husband's back. It shouldn't be difficult for Doug to get into Lady Camlets's bed and retrieve the item. Digger grinned too, knowing what Caine was getting at.
"What's my reward?" He asked as he rose from his seat.
"If you succeed, you will get half of the reward for the necklace. How you spend it is up to you." Caine turned serious. "You have my word."
Digger left the room with a strut in his step. Caine knew the man would not fail. Within a week, he has become a friend to Caine and something of an advisor, giving the Leader of Thieves new ideas for the Guild. Caine trusted his right hand man.
Once he was gone, Caine laughed to himself. He told Doug he would get half the pay from the necklace, but he will only be getting a quarter of the payment. Caine didn't plan to tell any of the thieves the real value of each item he gained. As long as they were paid, he didn't see there being any problems. Composing himself just as the door opened again, revealing the next thief.
