Norten Groovywave was originally a non-CRiTORA character named Retrianbus. When LastyGhost showed Daydreaming Birdie Retrianbus, she got the idea to turn Retrianbus into a CRiTORA character.

There were plans for Norten in 2021, being part of the character development of Gadget Brassblade, an artillery robot CRiTORA and former CRiViRUS Gang member who was repurposed as Gadget for LastyGhost's upcoming Outback Outrun project in 2023.

Gadget was in love with Norten despite the two rarely being together due to Norten's house being underwater. During the Infestation Invasion, Norten would've been deleted, causing Gadget to breakdown and join the CRiViRUS Gang to avenge his crush.
Norten would have left a shell collar and letter before their death, putting them in a small box on his bed. Lastee Ghostly and Axodus Wasteria (both retired CRiTORA characters being repurposed for LastyGhost projects) find the box, only to be ambushed by Norten's true loved one, who was permanently infected. Gadget would soon find out Norten never loved him, making Gadget breakdown again. Due to the extremely dark nature of Norten's story, it was scrapped.
In Late 2022, Norten was repurposed as a normal CRiTORA and was given more detail and colors at the time. In 2023, he was used for CRiTORA: Abnormal and his design was simplified.
