Bane

"He wanted this!" Amber told me as we stood outside together. "He wanted her to do this!"

Something cold twinged inside me as I stared into the darkness.

We ran after her... but by the time we got out here... she was gone.

Like she disintegrated or something.

"We played into his hands!" Amber continued, pacing with the exact amount of panic I felt stirring inside. "She's gone now! Gone to him!"

I shook my head. "No," I said, "his plan... Would've been to lure her out on her own. Get her alone. And then take her."

Amber threw her hands down, sobbing, "That's even WORSE!"

I closed my eyes tightly, breathing shakily as I stared down at my phone, trying to find new messages on her whereabouts, but there were none.

"Why did I think she would hurt me?" Amber said, shaking her head as tears streamed down her cheeks. "She would never do that! She's such a teddy bear! She loves me!"

"She was losing control," I explained. "It's werewolf instinct to become afraid when a wolf is losing control. It's a survival tactic to keep you alive from corrupted."

Amber gazed up at me, tears staining her cheeks. "Did she corrupt?"

I shook my head. "No, she just lost control. She was afraid that we were afraid. And not only did her wolf come out, but so did her angel."

"But now Lucian has her!" Amber sobbed. "How will we get her back?"

I just clenched my jaw, not knowing the answer myself.

But then my phone chimed, and I quickly gazed down at it to find a message from Loki.

I found her.

My heart started pounding again.

There was a corrupted stalking her, but she beat the shit out of it. She then ran over to a... cave, I think? I don't know. She just slipped in. I don't know where it goes.

I stared down at my phone, something hot stirring inside me. "I know where she is."

Amber gazed up, shocked.

I started forward. "She went to our safe place! Come on!"

We then ran straight forward, and I gasped as we broke through the trees, dashing at light speed.

As all the blurs passed through us, I finally stopped, and she followed with me.

I stood by the walls of the cave, heart pounding when Loki stood by it, glancing up in shock.

"You got here fast," he said, blinking.

I just shook my head, not willing to waste time, so I just slipped in, sliding through the rocks as the other two followed.

And we made it in the room.

But I then stepped further in the cave, staring off as the campfire cracked up to the sky.

She lit the fire...

I stepped up to find her, but I stopped, heart pounding.

Selene was sound asleep on the blankets, though...

There was someone holding her.

I started breathing heavily, and I opened my mouth to speak.

But Lucian only put his finger up, continuing to stroke her hair as she remained asleep.
