Bane
"Seeny hasn't been out for a while," Maple commented, gazing up curiously. "Is she okay?"
I smiled down at her despite the worry twinging inside me, as well. "She'll be okay. If she's not here within the next minute, we'll go find her together, okay?"
Maple smiled and hugged my arm. "Okay!"
I just lightly petted her head and sipped my chai.
But I still asked her thoughts, Hey, you good?
When there was no response, I sat up fully, brows drawing together. Selene?
I suddenly heard a loud feminine scream, and I shot up from my booth, staring off into the bathroom hallway; where it came from.
"Get off me!" Selene screamed from behind the wall. "What are you doing? Get off me!"
I suddenly stormed over toward where the sound came from, though I just heard her scream.
And suddenly, Selene was thrown out from behind the wall, crying out when she clashed with a table, and it broke from under her, collapsing and slicing into her skin.
I stared in horror as she gasped for air, tears in her eyes as she stared at me, clearly unable to move.
But—before I went to her aide—a sudden figure came out from the bathroom hall, smiling darkly as I glared at him.
Lucian.
Goddamn it... I should've killed him years ago.
"Seeny!" Maple cried, running over to her sister.
I just caught her arm when Lucian's eyes locked on her, and she cried a little and fought my grip, but I just lifted her, rocking the child slightly.
"Shhh..." I soothed, pushing her head to my chest so she couldn't see. "Don't look, okay?"
She hid her face in my skin, closing her eyes tightly.
Lucian's lips parted, and he tipped his head to the side. "A child? Who's child?"
I glared. "That's none of your business."
"She's a toddler..." Lucian said, narrowing his eyes as he examined Maple, and his eyes shot to me, and he glared. "Is she yours and Selene's child, Bane?"
I only narrowed my eyes, not responding.
Lucian advanced toward Selene who was still gasping, but I moved forward and blocked him from her view, though I glanced down to make sure she wasn't dangerously hurt.
"Selene," Lucian hissed. "You were my goddess. You were MINE! And you decide to go for him?" He waved to me. "I was your first! You MADE me! And you chose some loathe-some alpha?"
She only sat up, gasping as a shard of wood sliced further into her leg, though she just gazed up at Lucian. "You deserve... no one. You will forever be lonely."
He glared sharply, growling low under his breath as his eyes glowed a dark red.
Though... there was no one in this café, I was horrified that someone would come in soon and see this happening, or a waitress would come out from the kitchen and ask if we were okay.
"Selene," he hissed, "you are different from the first moon goddess."
"She has a heart," I replied, glaring. "Something you failed to get when the 'first' made you."
He only looked at me, but I just ignored his stare and dropped toward Selene to offer assistance, but she only cried out, prying the shard of wood from her leg as it sliced from her skin.
