ok so yall know those statehuman/countryhuman fanfics of Texas getting independence and subsequently things get more fucked up because trauma?
Well I read a few and thought "wouldn't it make more sense if it was Hawaii dealing with all that?"
AND BOOM! PLOT IDEA APPEARED >:)
So basically a very terrible natural disaster happens. It was so terrible in fact that all the tourists + the billionaires living in Hawaii fled before hand with no intention to return. The indigenous people weren't allowed to evacuate, essentially leaving many of them to die. Also the indigenous people got no aid from organizations such as the Red Cross and UN whatsoever.
While Hawaii is overseeing the search and rescue of the indigenous population, they get a call from United States. They learn that NOW was the time that they were getting the independence they always wanted back, but it's in very suspicious circumstances. Is America only giving them independence after the disaster knowing very damn well they'd end up as a "poor third-world" nation in everyone else's eyes? On top of that, Hawaii is getting memories of their traumatic past, including flashbacks of their family's deaths.
With the responsibilities to rebuild their economy (without the tourism), confront their trauma, and sustain their new independent nation, can Hawaii prove the wealthier nations wrong?
