(Elly's P.O.V)
I stared up at the sky while perched on a rock. The pale moonlight reflect doff the water and cast a shiny glow on Adrian's tail. He was examining me with wide eyes, I tried not to notice as he did. We had been swimming for hours, and the potion was slowly beginning to wear off. We had no choice but to stop and try again tomorrow, but we both knew I would have to go back home soon. It wasn't fair to my mother to always escape and worry her to death.
"Adrian...?" I asked.
"Yes?" He seemed dazed as he spoke and had to blink a couple of times to flash back to reality.
"Do you think I'll ever be a mermaid again?" I asked. He inched closer to me and wrapped his arms around my waist.
"It doesn't matter to me, as long as we're together." His answer wasn't exactly satisfying, so I asked again.
"But I mean, do you?"
"I'm really not sure, if only I knew." He leaned in for a kiss but a flinched and he backed away. Something about the moment just wasn't right.
"Maybe we should keep searching instead of sitting her."
"We've been swimming all day."
"I know, but, I don't know. It feels like we're so close to Ian."
Adrian frowned, he didn't dare protest, instead just slid into the water and wait for me to dive in after him.
For neither of us knew what dangers were ahead of us, daring to kill us, watching closely with ease...
