I heard a car door slam outside and I knew my mother was on the scene. She did it so often, I recognized the way the door sounded when it slammed. A minute later there was an impatient knock on the door. Dad went to answer as I sunk down on the couch. If my ankle wasn't sprained, I'd run and hide somewhere but there was no worming out of it now. In came my mother, not in a pleasant mood. Already was she not a morning person, but having to see Dad just soured her even more. She walked straight to the living room and examined my foot, taking the boot off though there really wasn't much to see.
"Get your bags, Kenz. We're going home." I remained on the couch with my arms folded across my chest.
"No." She seemed shocked that I'd opposed her.
"I said we're going home." I gave her the sassiest look I could come up with.
"I said no." She let out a huge sigh and rolled her eyes.
"It's not a choice, Mackenzie. Get your ass up." I still refused to move.
"Mackenzie, you really need to go." Dad encouraged but still got a death glare from Mom.
"I'm not going!" I protested. Mom turned and whispered something to Dad that I didn't quite catch. I knew they were conspiring against me though. Then she disappeared to the room where I was staying and returned with my bags a few minutes later. She could take my stuff if she wanted. I would be fine without it. Dad opened the front door for her and I thought maybe she was leaving. I didn't care. If this was her master plan then she needed to get better at trying to con me. It was pathetic how she thought I'd be encouraged to go with her by materialistic things.
However, the plot twisted and I was caught off guard when Dad picked me up off the couch and slung me over his shoulder as if I were a toddler throwing a tantrum in the grocery store. I started kicking in hopes he would put me down but he didn't budge. Dad was a strong guy and I was no match for him. He carried me to the car and buckled me into the passenger seat though they both knew that I couldn't run away.
"I thought I could count on you..." I muttered. He ignored my comment.
"Bye Kenz, I'll call you later." He'd betrayed me just as bad as Mom had and I couldn't care less if he called me later. I didn't want to talk to him either. Mom got into the driver's seat, slamming the door behind her. They'd treated me like I was a freaking three year old. She was really taking me away and there was nothing I could do about it. She was like Cruella DeVille stealing innocent little puppies. I hated her right now, and I wasn't too fond of Dad either at the moment. I wished she could just get lost.
