It was the holiday season, more specifically Christmas time, Desha's favorite time of the year. Christmas has always been her favorite holiday season since she was a child. Family, the gift of giving, Christmas movies and snow is what she looked forward to every year. But now that she was older with her own family, December didn't just hold her favorite holiday anymore. She now looked forward to the month of December because not only was her first child born on the second, her and James wedding anniversary was on the eighteenth. December was a special and busy month for the Ashton household.
But this year would be a little atypical. Desha's parents had planned a family trip to visit her family on her dad's side in Dubai. And since she hadn't seen them since last year for Arya's birthday, Desha and James thought it would be a great idea for them to tag along. They were already planning to spend the holiday with them. Especially since they still were not communicating with the patriarch and matriarch of the Ashton family, more of the latter. But that was a story for another time.
Before she could even think about packing her and her children's bags. She had to talk with Aerie's dad about the plan she had for her family. Which did not go as planned. Of course Zig would want to spend time with his child for Christmas. Which she totally understood. Besides, it's not like they had a set schedule for days on which one of them would have Aerie. But when Desha told him about her plans for Christmas, he did express that he wanted to spend the day with her. Which has Desha conflicted. She still hasn't gotten used to her new norm when it comes to the twins. So when being excited to see her family again and planning for the trip to Dubai, the thought of having to share Aerie for the holidays didn't come to mind.
Two weeks before Christmas
"I don't know. I just feel bad, you know? It's her first Christmas and his first child and I don't want to take that from him. But I really want Aerie with us so that my baba can meet her. I don't know when she will get another chance to do so"
Talking to her husband while trying to curl her hair, Desha's shoulders sag and she pouts while looking into the mirror. James doesn't say anything. Instead he listens quietly as he lets his wife continue her rant about the situation and how she feels. She lets out a heavy sigh before she continues.
"I'm not sure what I should do..maybe I should just let Aerie stay here in New York with Zig and his mom...or you know, maybeee..."
She drags out and James snaps his head towards his wife, knowing exactly what she was suggesting before she could even get the words out of her mouth.
