"So were you planning on going without shoes forever, or....."

The high-pitched voice would have startled Jo if he not heard Alice's soft footsteps as she made her way across the wide yard towards where he and Emmett sat.

Jo and Emmett again were sitting in peaceful silence, Jo having finally laid out in depth everything that had happened in his time with Christine, set against the background of churning grey clouds. Emmett had been quiet, listening intently and only asking a few questions.

Jo looked down at his mud cover feet. He hadn't put much thought into his lack of shoes, or really anything to do with his clothes, over the last few days. He chuckled.

"You can come back inside, if you'd like." Alice whispered. "Christine went with Carlisle to the hospital in town."

"Why would she do that?" Emmett asked. "Is she looking to buy a few bags of blood to go?"

Alice's wind chime laugh was refreshing to hear. "No, Em. She's wanting to check local medical and police records for any major animal attacks. She thinks the werewolves may already be on the west coast."

"She's paranoid. If there were any werewolves anywhere near here, we would've already known about them." Emmett said. He glanced over at Jo, "I'm sure what you all ran into was just a one-off thing. Nothing more."

"Em, Christine said she and Phillip ran into a pack of five on the East Coast. While I'm not overly inclined to believe everything the woman says, there's got to be some level of reasonable concern on her part. Besides, Edward says she wasn't lying about any of the encounters she described."

Alice looked Jo over another time. "Would you please come back inside? At least to take a shower and put on some fresh clothes. Ana already did the same."

Jo sighed and stood up.

Standing directly under the stream of hot water, Jo could feel as the dirt and grime ran off his body. He watched it swirled several times before finally slipping down the drain. He could hear the other vampires in the house as they went about their days. He wondered how effected they really were by the appearance of three unexpected visitors in their home, and how they were able to put on such a calm and collected front. Even the blonde's, Rosalie's, reaction to Christine was tame in comparison to what his own erratic outbursts.

Shutting off the water and reaching for the towel, he caught a glimpse of himself in the full-length fogged mirror. His new body was still a deep shock to him. His muscles, while not overly pronounced like Emmett's, were lean and smooth. The light layer of fat that had always clung to his stomach and love handles had shrunken significantly, though was not completely gone. He now possessed a soft around the edges appearance that was accented and complimented the slight bulge of new muscle. He ran his fingers lightly over his chest, down and then back up his arms, then even slower down his stomach, feeling the subtle contours. Looking into his new face he had to admit to himself, he felt beautiful. This was a brand-new feeling for Jo, and he knew his human face would have been flushed pink in the sudden embarrassment that washed over him as he realized what he just admitted to himself. Was it ok to think of yourself as beautiful? He followed the line of his body passed hips, examining each muscular leg, dusted with a light layer of dark hair. He chuckled lightly to himself when he realized how thankful he was to have recently trimmed his pubic hair. Eternity with an overgrown bush might not have been the style he wanted to go for. With all the changes to his body, he was oddly thankful that he saw little change in that particular area, beyond what seem to be the vampire standard of smooth glass-like skin with a lightened color.

He toweled himself down, unable to fully pull is eyes away from the mirror. Watching as his muscles stretched and flexed while he worked. Alice had kindly laid out a new set of clothes for him before he came back into the large house. He pulled on the simple pair of black briefs and navy-blue socks and stepped into the almost perfectly tailored pair khakis. After buttoning them and lacing in the dark brown leather belt, the legs of the pants bunched around his ankles and fit snuggly around his butt and thighs. Just a little too tight for the current style. Alice had also set out a white button-down shirt with the sleeves already perfectly cuffed. This too was an almost perfect fit. Lastly, he stepped into the basic brown boat shoes sitting next to the door. With one final look in the mirror, and a quick adjustment of his damp, dark curls, Jo opened the bathroom door to join the rest of the household.
