The bond we share

Chapter 6

I get a wheel barrel and a couple pitch forks for us to clean stalls. "You ready to learn what hard work is?"

 He just rolls his eyes at me. I put the wheel barrel out side of Denver's stall, I lead Denver out to the round pen. I hand Ty the pitch fork and stares at me like I'm crazy.

 "Well don't be afraid a little bit of manure won't hurt you trust me I should know." I state.

 He starts picking the manure with a disgusted look on his face each time he does it. After we finish cleaning Denver's stall I made Ty dump the wheel barrel and boy was he happy about that. Not really he wasn't happy at all, I made him get clean shaving for Denver's stall too. After we put clean shavings in Denver's I get Denver and put him back in his stall.

 "So is it really that bad?" I asked Ty while gently punching him in the shoulder.

 "No, it wasn't but it is really foul smelling." He said trying not to laugh. 

"Yeah, well you'll have that." I say trying not to laugh.

 I decided to give him break and finish the rest myself. He did 4 before Denver's stall so I finished the rest. After I finished and put everything away we walked to the house to get lunch. My mom had made us turkey sandwiches and fruit salad.

 "How was your first day working Ty?" My mom asks Ty while looking at me trying not to laugh.

 "Umm, it was good I guess " Ty said. 

"Good, we didn't push you to hard did we?" My mom asked.

 "No, not at all." Ty said.

 "I'm going back to the barn I need to work with Thor and Bentley. Also , mom can I use your stuff for Bentley today?" I ask my mom.

 "Absolutely, what ever you need." She says.

 "Thanks, Ty I will be at the barn working with the horses if you want come out side when your done."

 I say as I walk into the mud room and put on my ariat tall boots. I walk back to the barn and I'm greeted by Denver nickering to me. I walk into the tack room and grab my english saddle and Thor's bridle. I walk to Thor's stall and walk him to the cross ties and clip them to his halter. I groom Thor and slid the saddle on his back. After I tack up I put my helmet on and lead him to the arena. We warm by doing some trotting around the arena. After we are warmed up I canter him toward a 3'3 oxer and he clears it with room to spare. I pat him for doing a good job and then Ty comes out. He waves to me as he walks toward the arena.

 "He looks good " Ty says.

 "Thanks" I smile and pat Thor.

 "Want to see us jump?" I say.

 Ty gives me a funny look after looking at the 4'3 oxer. "That horse can jump that high?"

 "Yes he can very well with room to spare."

 I trot off with Thor and we canter around the arena and head toward the 4'4 jump and he clears it perfectly. I pat and praise and and walk back towards Ty. And hop off Thor and lead him out of the arena.

 "Wow, he is good." Ty says.

 "I know he is, he is ready to leave soon too." 

 When we get back to the barn I take off Thor's bridle and put on his halter and clip him in the cross ties. I undo the girth put it on the saddle and take it from his back. I take the saddle pads and hang them to dry and brush Thor down. After he is cooled down I put him in his stall. I look at Ty and walk back into the tack room to put my stuff away. After I put my stuff away I go to get Bentley, he is in the corner of his stall. I grab his halter and lead rope and open the stall door, I offer him a carrot and coo to him. He turns around very slowly to face me and slide the halter on him and give him a carrot. I lead him out to the round pin to do some work with him. Ty follows behind with a lunge whip in had that I asked him to grab. I go into the round pin with Bentley and take off his halter.

 "Can you take this and hand the whips please?" I ask Ty.

 He takes the halter and hands me the lunge whip. "What are you gonna do with him?"

 "I'm gonna do join up, it's a way to get horses to trust you and know that your in charge and well protect them." I say.

 After I explain what I'm doing to Ty I send Bentley out and ask him trot around the round pen, he trots but bucks and throws a few little fits. I ask him to switch direction and he does without turning his butt towards me which is good. I ask him to canter and he does really well, after I notice his ears turned to me and he is paying attention I ask him to join up.

 I stop drop my whip and turn away from him, he walks up behind me and I turn to praise him and pat his neck. I hand Ty the whip and take the halter from him. I put the halter on Bentley and Ty opens the gate for me. "Thanks." I say, he nods his head at me. After get back to the barn I but Bentley away and walk back to the house. Ty and I eat dinner at the table and head up stairs. I go to my bed and fall right a sleep.
