Joseph took it a lot better than I expected. Ha, who am I kidding, he didn't take it well at all. You know this feeling of dread you get when something badis about to happen and you know it's inevitable. The fear and the insecurity you feel rushing in on you. The sleepless nights and random mumbling. Yeeahhhh, I didn't feel any of that. And as I'm seated, watching the news on the TV, knowing fully well the only reason he hasn't thrown me and my stuffs out is because it's still dark, and he's too tired to accompany anyone out. Or it could be that even if he thinks I cheated on him, couldn't find it in him to throw a pregnant woman out in the dead of the night. Jah knows what arrows fly by this time of the day, but to say he was livid is an understatement. The look of disgust he gave me could pierce a hole in a brick wall. But did I care? Not one bit. The kind of security I felt was out of this world. I didn't even care about the fact that I was about to be homeless the next morning.
The picture of our reigning monarch pops up on the screen, Ceaser Augustus. He's a tyrant among all tyrants, the foreigner among natives. At least that's what the people called him. They said he wasn't suppose to be president, but there he his ruling us, the picture of how good our government is. What interested me was the fact that he had announced that a census would take place in the foreseeable future and all citizens were to travel to their home town to be counted . I guess it's none of my business, I thought as I switch the TV off. Better get some sleep, since I'm leaving at first light.
"Mary, Mary!!!" Not this again, I thought, as a presence shock me awake from sleep
"Joseph, it's not morning yet, is it?"
"What??" He asked, his eyes not looking like he just woke from a deep slumber, unlike me who was dreaming of drinking wine at a party
"You changed your mind and decided to send me out right away, didn't you?" I said, looking up at him
"What?? Oh that. Forget about that one first. You wouldn't believe what I just experienced. I had this dream, this thing, it called himself and Angel, the messenger of Jehovah…"
"Gabriel?" I say, sitting up, all traces of sleep gone
"Yes, Gabriel. He talked to me about what he told you, the child you're carrying and his purpose in life. He told me you didn't cheat on me. And that you're still a virgin."
"All which I was willing to explain, if you had just listened, you stubborn man-child. "
"I'm sorry, but I still wouldn't have believed you if you told me. If I wasn't sure that I talked to a messenger of God, I still wouldn't believe it. Wow!! You're really carrying the Son of God."I could see the light in his eyes. Did he get the feeling I felt, the joy that courses through me when I was in the presence of the angel? This could only be the work of God
"Oh, the angel said something else. Two things actually."
"What were they?"
"Well, we're supposed to pack our bags and get ready for a journey. I don't know we're to, but we were told to get ready."
"You didn't watch the news, did you?"
"What?"
"Nothing, you'll find out later. What's the second one?"
"We don't need to search for baby names." He says, a smile on his face .QUESTION: SHOULD I MAKE THE DREAM JOSEPH HAD HAVE IT'S OWN CHAPTER OR YOU'RE FIND WITH HOW THIS TURNED OUT. LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS
