The big hall was crowded with people formally dressed and of course the only sound that could be heard were murmuring and clanking of glass

"Thought you wouldn't show up" Damian said as Lucas and Gemma approached him

The ball was held in honor of King Damian the III, he was celebrating his hundredth birthday which of course had to be a massive ball and every high ranked prestigious wolf from all over the world were present but of all Alpha Kings from the four regions, Lucas from Northern Pack was the only one he spoke to

"Wouldn't miss it for the world" Lucas said hugging him
"Queen Gemma, a pleasure meeting you again... Oh and congratulations on your second child" Damian said referring to the barely visible bump on her tummy
Gemma just rolled her eyes at him and walked away, no normal being would've gotten away with it but she was Lucas' wife and also a friend of Damian
"She's still upset that you missed Lucy's birthday I guess" Lucas said to a confused Damian
"I see...but I apologized to her about that"
"It's the hormones, lost count of how many times she's been mad at me just today"
Lucas said looking at his wife's direction while grinning from ear-to-ear, he was soo obsessed with his wife and succeeded in convincing himself that without his wife around 10ft close to him, he'll probably die

"You're her husband afterall, who else will she vent her frustration on"

"You're just saying shit cos you don't know how it feels, when you get married-"

"Lucas" Damian warned

"I know we both said that we didn't want a mate but you won't know how much you need one till u get one"

"You said it then when u didn't have a mate, Serena is already dead and no one will ever replace her, not even if the moon goddess decides to give me another mate"
The king didn't have a Queen since his mate died and to be honest, he wasn't looking for one, he could rule with or without a mate but that's something the people failed to understand

"Everyone deserves a companion-"
"Not me, I don't need anyone, I've been ruling for decades without a companion and I will keep ruling for centuries to come without a Queen"

"Do it for the people. You don't have to fall in love, just have someone who will act as a queen without necessarily acting as your wife"

"So you're saying I should find someone who will be willing to marry me without the intention of wanting to fuck me??"

"Well... When you put it that way, it's quite impossible judging from your high status and looks but there might be someone like that out there... maybe"

"I didn't agree to it, whether there is someone or not"

"Sir" a waiter with a tray of drinks approached him, the workers of the event are all clueless humans which is why he was referred as sir not Your majesty

Damian took to glasses from the tray handing one to Lucas which he refused

"No thanks, Gemma made me swear not to taste alcohol all through her pregnancy, she said I have to suffer with her since I'm responsible for her condition. I'm literally on a pregnancy diet... Speaking of Gemma, I better go find her before she accuses me of not coming after her cos I was flirting with the guest" Lucas said while Damian smirked at him
"Ok then, see you around" Damian said while Lucas got lost in the crowd, his mood suddenly changed as he saw the group of people approach him

"Beautiful evening your highness" the elder council bowed in unison

"Can't you see there are humans here" the king said frowning

"No matter the condition we have to pay respect to our leader"

"Then you shouldn't bother your leader" Damian already understood why they were here and it isn't a conversation he's willing to have now or ever

"Your Majesty you can't keep avoiding this forever, the packs demand a queen"

"Then why haven't they voiced out their opinion about it" Damian was already get angry with this conversation and he knew it wouldn't end well especially for the humans in the building. Trying to calm himself, he quickly gulped down the drink that was in his hand

Despite being heavyweight, the little glass burned down his throat and he felt a bit of dizziness sweep in, which could only mean one thing...

He was drugged

But how is that possible, he can detect poison from afar but how couldn't he detect this one. The person obviously didn't want to kill him or the person tried to kill him but didn't know that he can't die of poison

"Your Majesty, the people are starting to worry for the future of this pack and the entire wolf pack around the world. They need a Queen"

"What can a queen do that I haven't done for them!" He growled angry, these people were really testing his patience

"Your Majesty it's true that you have been ruling really well but we expect better when you have a queen with you"

"I DON'T NEED A QUEEN!!" he growled even louders startling almost everyone in the hall

"Your Majesty we've put up with your tantrums and we've let you do as you please but not anymore, it's either you find a queen or you get married to Lady Alaia!!"

This was the last straw, Damian was completely fuming and his eyes turned darker than usual, so did his voice

His wolf was in charge

"You want a queen don't you?" he smirked evily asking in an extremely deep voice
The elders all became quiet and we're shaking cos they could feel the strong aura emitting from their king but still managed to nod their head slightly causing Damian's smirk to go wider

"Fine then" he said removing a green emarald coloured ring from his finger, the entire place had become quiet and solely focused on him

Everything happened in a flash he grabbed a girl who was few feet behind him pulling her forcefully causing the tray in her hand and he put the ring on her finger without bothering to look at her, his eyes were staring deep into the elder's soul who dared to speak to him in a rude manner

"Here is your Queen!" He said and walked away still without sparing her a glance,a few gasps and murmurs could be heard all around the hall

Everyone was shocked but none of them were as shocked at the clueless human who just got engaged
