December 21st, 2023 A Christmas party in Seoul... 20h00
"Kiss her! Kiss her! Kiss her!" They chanted demandingly at me, pumping their fists in the air as if this was some rave party.
"Ani! She's my colleague. And this could count as quid pro quo." I said to the idiot crowd of colleagues in our company as I pushed my glasses up the bridge of my nose.
They were beginning to slide down my nose, as I tended to get extra sweaty whenever I was nervous.
"Kiss her! Kiss her! Kiss her!" The chanting continued in the background as I looked back at the beautiful young woman standing with me beneath the mistletoe on the landing to the oakwood staircase that let into the restaurant we were currently at.
We'd been stuck on this landing, with no where to go, for the last fifteen minutes.
"I'm so sorry Ji-ah. I bumped you, then caught you and landed us, quite literally, in this mess." I apologised to her.
"That's alright Namjoon. I think we can ward them off with a safe peck on the cheek?" She suggested helpfully.
"Okay let's do that." I nodded in agreement, getting tired of standing here like a celebrity. "But, uh- who's kissing who's cheek here?" I stammered nervously.
She chuckled at my question and pulled me by my tie, so that she could reach my face.
Then, she placed the most delicate kiss on my cheek, before accidentally tripping on my feet and causing me to fall on her, landing with her back pressed up against the wall and me on top of her.
"Close one." I smiled at Ji-ah, my face just inches from hers.
"Yeah. Close one." She said huskily, her eyes darkened a little.
"Awwww come on you guys! Even the universe is telling you to bloody kiss already! It's not preschool here! You're grown adults! Kiss already!" Came some of the comments from our colleagues in the crowd.
Damn mistletoe. I think to myself. Who even puts that on a staircase's landing!
"Let's have a seat Ji-ah. Don't know about you, but I'm hungry." I say to her, taking her by the hand, walking past our drunk colleagues and sitting at a table.
"Yes..." Ji-ah squeaked, following me anyway.
We helped ourselves to the buffet laid out infront of us. And ignored the crazy company we had.
Meanwhile, at the back of my head, all I could think of was 'what if I did kiss her?'
