It was now New Years Eve, and everyone was having a grand ol' time celebrating with each other. Theo had taken the liberty of purchasing alcohol and magical fireworks for the occasion, and if they didn't have magic to light them while buzzed, it would have been disastrous.

At 11:00 in the evening they were all in the backyard of the Manor, watching as the fireworks danced and twirled into the sky and dangerously close to the grass. No Muggles lived nearby so it was okay to use even the most extravagant ones.

When 11:45 came around, Hermione cleared her throat to get everyone's attention. "Hello, everyone! Well, it's almost New Year's Day which means, well, a new year. I don't know if any of you have heard of this, but Muggles sort of have a tradition where they make goals for the new year. You know, things you want to accomplish in the next year. Think of it as a clean slate. Most of the time, people will follow their resolutions for a couple weeks or so and then give up, but it's still fun to make them. I thought I would share one of mine, even though it's cheesy." She paused and looked at Draco, then each of her friends, and Narcissa. "One of my goals is to remember how fortunate I am to have you all. You're more than my friends, you're my family and Narcissa is like a mother to me. I love you all."

"Maybe I'll be your mother-in-law soon, hmm?" Narcissa suggested, making everyone chuckle.

"Mother!" Draco hissed.

"What?" She asked innocently. "I love Hermione! Can't blame me for wanting her as my daughter, Draco."

Hermione blushed but didn't mind. She loved Draco, and she would marry him in a heartbeat if he asked, which she hoped he would some day.

Luna stepped forward and looked up at the stars. "This year I want to discover a new species. That's my goal."

"I want to see the Cannons play," Ron said.

Hermione rolled her eyes. That wasn't exactly what she meant by a goal or resolution but it didn't matter.

Neville wanted to be less forgetful. Lavender wanted to get married to Ron, which Ron did not expect, being that they hadn't talked about it at all. Harry quickly jumped in to save the awkwardness by saying he wanted to take Theo on a trip to Italy, which earned him a kiss on the cheek from Theo. Ginny's goal was to be less bossy, but then broke that one by telling Blaise, "You have to go next. Now!" Blaise said he wanted to spoil Ginny more, though he probably only said that because she was staring him down. Theo said he wanted to learn how to make hair potions to "make his hair more silky." Draco said the whole idea of resolutions was dumb, but did say he wanted to be a better man for Hermione.

Narcissa stepped forward. "My goal is to be Hermione's mother-in-law."

Draco rolled his eyes, knowing he couldn't stop his mother from saying whatever she wanted.

Hermione pulled out her wand and blue translucent figures flew out. "11:59 and 45 seconds, everyone! Ready? Let's count backward from 10!"

"10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1..... HAPPY NEW YEAR!" They all kissed their partner and clapped.

Draco pulled Hermione close. "Another year with you." He kissed her gently on the lips and then looked at her with a smile on his face. "I don't need anything else."
