For their first ever college Christmas break, middle school friends Soobin and Taehyun paid all the fees to cover a special little trip to Germany, the place of the all famous Weihnachtsmarkt.
It may not be the city of love.
But it became the city of confession.

What do you expect to happen when you enter college?

Do you have dreams that you want to achieve?

Do you have high hopes for something?

Do you have ambitions to go somewhere?

Do you have plans of making new friends?

Do you have plans of... falling in love?

Well.

Soobin and Taehyun had all of the above.

The two young men have been friends since they were boys in middle school, and miraculously maintained their friendship all this time.

Despite Taehyun's academic success being a lot higher than Soobin's, he still chose to attend the same high school as Soobin instead of opting for a more prestigious academy, not wanting to leave his best friend behind.

So was it really a surprise that they ended up at the same university?

Not exactly.

Especially when the university offered both of the things they wanted to study: Taehyun with math and science, and Soobin with psychology and medicine. It wasn't hard to tell what either of them wanted to be: scientist and doctor.

And sure enough, they made a few friends too.

And they both knew where they wanted to spend their winter break and Christmas vacation: Germany.

Soobin had been fascinated with German history, culture and food ever since high school, so it was no surprise that he wanted to go there for Christmas.

For one particular reason.

The Weihnachtsmarkt was packed with people, so Taehyun made sure to hold onto Soobin's arm as they trudged through the crowd.

"Damn, the brochure wasn't kidding when they said the hype is real," Taehyun remarked.

Soobin nodded.

"Oh yeah. It's like you can't breathe here."

Even though they were quite squished, Soobin and Taehyun still took a look at their surroundings.

It was so... festive.

There were hundreds of booths and stalls lined up down the snaking path, all looking so vintage with their wooden structures and icing (read snow) covered roofs, almost like life-sized gingerbread houses.

Timeless Christmas hits were playing from the overhead loudspeakers, setting the mood into a jolly atmosphere.

And the smell.

Oh the smell.

The scents of toasted waffles, fried Bratwursts, sugary Lebkuchenherzen, buttery popcorn and fruit punch mixed together in the air.

No one could ever replicate that smell.

But it wasn't just the food that made this setting so intricate. Amusement park rides were distributed across the lawn, ranging from mini roller coasters to carousels and bumper cars.
