how long - charlie puth
As I arrive at the office, Chang-wook is standing by my desk, looking at the mess of papers and files strewn everywhere with an expression of distaste.
Truthfully, I don't have the most pristine desk in the world.
In fact... it's a bit of an exact opposite. It looks like trash.
Okay, sure. It is trash, unless you realize there are valuable, life saving documents and contracts bumbled in on it. And I am totally intending to tidy it up, and sort out all the piles of old documents on the floor. As soon as I have time.
"Meeting in ten minutes", he repeats on my face, looking at his watch. "I want the draft financing documentation ready"
"Absolutely", I reply, trying to stay calm. But just his presence is giving me jitters.
Chang-wook is unnerving at the best of times. He emanates scary, brainy power like all men emanate aftershave.
But today is a million times worse, because Chang-wook is on the decision panel. Tomorrow he and thirteen other partners are holding a big meeting to decide on who will become a new partner.
Tomorrow I discover whether I've made it or whether my life has been one big useless failure, where I wasn't even able to complete one dream that I had since forever.
No pressure, or anything.
"The draft documentation is right here...", I reach into the pile of folders and pull out what feels like a box file with an efficient flourish.
It's an old box of McDonald's Krispy Chicken box.
Hastily I shove it in the bin.
"It's definitely here somewhere...", I scrabble frantically and locate the correct file. Thank God.
"Here!"
"I don't know how you can work in this shambles, Barrister Jungkook", Chang-wook's voice is thin and sarcastic, and his glasses covered eyes entirely without humour.
The fact that he is one of the people who know I'm working double hours, just to keep at my job of being a Barrister at Hybe Labels and Supreme Court, just to run for elections– is definitely hard for him to process.
Perhaps that's the reason this man has not left me alone for a single day, knowing I didn't specialise in one particular civil or criminal law but both, knowing I love solving crime thrillers rather than drafting contracts, but damn has he given me a second to breath.
Always ready with cases of both genres, and never giving a choice like one would have between a kpop and jpop song.
"At least everything's to hand", I control my scowl and attempt a little laugh as well, but Chang-wook looks stony as ever.
Holding the need to punch his ass, I pull out my chair, and a pile of letters which I'd forgotten about, falls like a shower to the floor.
"You know, we had an old rule that desks were to be completely cleared every night by six", Chang-wook's voice is steely.
"Perhaps we should reintroduce it", he declares.
I wasn't even here at that fucking rule-making.
"Maybe", I try to smile, but Chang-wook is making me more and more annoyed.
