"How do you run away from things that are inside your head"

Chapter One

I rolled my wrist and let the pencil hit the floor. I stared at the page for a while. I was awake, yet I could still taste the bitterness.

This is stupid I can't believe I agreed to this.

Writing about my dreams wouldn't help anything. Dwelling on them sure as hell wouldn't help. Still I agreed to it for some stupid ass reason.

It was an escape attempt, a futile struggle against the things that I was dealing with . Writing felt like unraveling my thoughts.

As if my brain was one big ball of yarn.

I had agreed to start journaling my dreams, after suddenly awakening a horde of skeletons in a nightmare.

I personally had thought this was a stretch. Demigods often have horrible dreams. If I was the other camper's I would be more concerned if I had had a normal night.

Still I had agreed to it on the account of Mr. D's not so subtle black mailing.

Why am I here," My feet planted firmly on the ground, fingers dug deep into my thighs.

"This is starting to feel like an Intervention,"

" That's because this is an intervention Nico," Will Solace said, staring at me intently. "These dreams you've been having, they're no- they're not normal," He scooted closer "And not in the usual Demi-god capacity, you know you can tell me what's wrong,"

I bit back a retort. I couldn't tell Will what was wrong, because I didn't understand what was wrong myself.

The door opened and Chiron and Dionysus entered

"Well if it isn't Bill Rolace," Mr D pointed at Will, an easy grin on his face. Will didn't bother correcting him.

"You're more cheerful than usual," Will commented "Please don't tell me you convinced a new camper to get you wine." Mr.D raised his hands to his head in mock offense.

"Ahem-" Chiron pitched in, brow furrowed. "The topic at hand,"

"Right, right," Mr.D diverts his attention to me, and if I didn't know any better, I would swear he looked concerned. "So Nico Di Angelo, tell us about these dreams you're having." I noted the fact he used my actual name but decided to leave it be at the moment.

"They're hardly of any concern, the usual demigod dreams." My fingers dug deeper into my jeans.

"Normal dreams don't awaken a hoard of screaming skeletal warriors in the middle of the night"

"They do when your child of Hades"

Mr. D walked over to the door and swung jr open, gesturing outside.

"I'll need to talk to the kid alone Bill," I narrowed my eyes. Will furrowed his brow and twisted his head slightly at me, as if to ask if I'll be ok. I roll my eyes at him and nod.

"Meet me at the infirmary later?"

"Sure, why not" I offer. Mr.D slammed the door on his way out.

"Let's cut to the chase child," Chiron said. "We're aware of your trip through-through that nightmare" I stiffened. No, we are not talking about this.

"And after talking to Percy and Annabeth, we became aware of the nightmares they were having."

" Before you say anything else, the dreams aren't about Tartarus" I gritted out, probably more aggressive than I should have.

" We're aware, however, me and Mr.D think they could still be related."

"They're not," I insisted.

"Listen kid, take it from the God of Insanity" Mr. D pitched in. "If you don't start talking about these, you'll lose it." I couldn't help myself. On instinct alone I could feel myself, dispersing into the nearest shadow.

"Nico please, you can't afford to shadow travel," Chiron said. I reeled that shadows back out.

"All we're asking is that you start logging your dreams, in a sort of dream journal."

"No offense but that sounds like something Iris kids would do." Mr.D snorted and snapped his hands, to produce a can of Diet Coke.

"This is why he's my favorite Chiron." I blinked at him.

"I'm your favorite?" Frankly I didn't know whether to be happy or scared. I settled on a combination.

"Forget I said anything." He shrugged "Now I'm also aware that Rolace-"

"Solace"

"That's what I said- isn't aware of your trip through Tarturus." I stiffened all over again.

"Yes" I replied through gritted teeth "and it's going to stay that way" Mr. D rolled his eyes.

"As your doctor shouldn't that be something he knows about."

"He's everyone's doctor," I retorted.

"Still- so I could tell him." Mr.D snapped his hands and a notebook and pen appeared. "Or you could start writing an entry everyday in that." He pointed to the notebook. For all the mockery in his voice, he looked deadly serious. Which isn't a look the god of wine sported often.

"Are you seriously blackmailing me?"

"It's your choice kid." He pushed the notebook closer to me. I glared at him. If it was anyone else, they would have run away. Or at the very least have the decency to look scared. But this was a god I was talking to.

"Fine" I grabbed the notebook and stormed out of the door, slamming the door behind me. I could hear them talking through behind the door. "Don't you think your tactics were a little harsh Mr.D?" Chiron asked.

"I wasn't lying when I said the kid was my favorite Chiron" He took a sip of his Diet Coke. "And something about this situation just bugs me."
