Gray honestly didn't know how he could share a bed with her. She was the sexiest thing he had ever seen. He loved Beth, but she was in the Marines. She was tall and built strong and sexy. His house guest was delicate and curvy sexy. She was average height for a woman. He had been with shorter girls, but she felt petite in his arms.
Gray thought about escaping to see how things were upstairs, but didn't want them asking questions. He had invited dates over before and they always stayed away. Monty told Sofia there was no point in getting attached because whoever she was wouldn't stick around. He had a strange urge to have Katherine stay longer than usual. How could he feel so strongly after one day? They had kissed, but she didn't even remember it.
Instead, he brought her the frozen peas and sat so her feet were on his lap. For a girl who had been beaten, her spirits were high. Getting over her fever helped. He yawned. It had been a long day, and he had only had cat naps the night before. As the hours went on his concerns about internal injuries evaporated. A concussion was possible, so maybe watching the TV wasn't the best idea.
"How's your head?"
"You just asked me that. What are you, a nervous Nellie?" She poked him in the side with her foot.
He leaned over her body and tickled her side. She giggled, as he pulled her down the sofa onto his lap. The peas fell onto the floor, and she giggled and squirmed making him uncomfortable in his shorts.
"Truce. Truce." Her laugh wasn't helping.
"Fine. Concussions can show up later. How's your vision?"
"Half as good."
"Right. Is it hard to use only one eye?"
"It's tiring. Truthfully, I'm tired." She kissed his cheek. "Is it okay if I go to bed?"
"I'll check on you soon. But your head is okay?" He almost added a wink, but it was a serious concern.
"Yes. It hasn't changed in two seconds, Dad."
He smiled. "I deserve that." Even though he only had six and a half years on her.
Gray had dated younger women and ones who were older but acted immature. K, Katherine was a mouthful, had an old soul. Even though he could easily see her tearing up the floor at a club in her sexy dress, she looked like she would be comfortable sitting with older people listening to their stories, like she had listened to him. He never shared his story, but being with her felt different.
He hadn't mentioned Beth. His greatest sorrow he kept to himself. It took him years to share with Monty. He remembered the night in the small village in southern France. They ran as he bared his soul. His friend understood heartbreak. Gray had no delusions that Monty kept the secret from his wife. The difference was Sofia would never let on if she knew about his first love. First love. His mind was playing tricks on him. He had determined long ago Beth would be his only love.
Gray waited until K was asleep before climbing in bed. She made little sputters with her breathing, but they weren't snores. He snored; Monty teased him, but women never complained. Maybe because his gifts in the bedroom made up for it. Don't go there, man. He gave his dick a lecture about no cave diving. Even if she climbed on and rubbed her gorgeous ass all over him, the pecker wasn't going in. He would explore his reasons in the light of day.
The last time he didn't have sex with a woman within a day of meeting her, he was in the desert. With all the guys around, why did she pick the tank of a guy from New Jersey. He was a linebacker when there was a guy from California who was a quarterback. K might pick him because he was here or had rescued her, but never because she fell for the Jewish recovering alcoholic with a job he couldn't share the truth about. The bigger problem was that he cared when he never had before.
