Sadness filled Doyle's heart. Everything had changed. Gray knew who she was. She hadn't been playing a game or trying to fool him but had just wanted to be treated like a normal person.
"Hello." Doyle didn't expect the beauty with dark eyes and hair. She hid the right side of her face. The visitor snickered. "Did Gray buy your clothes?"
"It was sweet and they're comfortable."
"You took beautiful pictures of my Ana."
"She's adorable but I think I scared her."
"My bebé needs to get used to people first. She loves Gray. He's a wonderful man."
"He took care of me." She frowned.
"You were lucky he saved you."
Doyle wanted to be alone. A knock on the door sped her heart rate. A deep voice greeted Sofia, who said, "She's here."
Doyle continued to hide her bruises as she watched the man walk closer. "Ms. Kane. I'm Detective Murray. Are you being held here against your will?"
"What? No! I don't want my family to see me. Gray saved me. That jerk Gio might not have stopped if Gray wasn't there." She shuddered.
"Can I see your injuries?"
"Gray has pictures. Isn't that enough?"
"I wish it were. I'm sorry. He and I spent a lot of time in the desert together."
"He told me about coming home and drinking." Sofia gasped quietly. "I think it was because I was hanging out with the wrong people."
"We've questioned the whole band. The drummer is worried about you and has been cooperative."
"What about Mick?"
"He's lawyered up."
She winced at her own stupidity. "He pushed me. Did you find my phone?"
"He smashed it."
"Am I in trouble?"
"Not anymore."
"But I partied with them."
"I think half their fans have." He looked serious. She scoffed. "Maybe not, but did you sell drugs to them?"
"No!"
"Buy them for them?"
"No! I only buy weed. It's legal." She hung out with rich kids who shared coke. She never once brought anything but weed home. "I think it's Gio's job to keep the band happy."
"What was his beef with you?"
"He said it was about his stuff, but I think he wanted to get rid of me. I had been with Mick for a month. The night before in New York he kissed a random fan in front of me. When I showed up in his Boston suite after the concert the same fan was having sex with him. I'd bet it was Gio who brought her to Boston. He wanted me gone."
"So he smashed your face with his foot?"
"He has anger issues, but I also took a photo of the NYC girl riding Mick. That's why he smashed my phone."
"I need to see your face."
Sofia said, "I can leave."
"Please. I haven't seen it. I just know it's bad."
Both reacted together. "... You haven't seen it?"
"Gray took the mirror down." A tear leaked out. He was so sweet. "I lied to him about my name."
"I'm sure he'll understand." The guy had a heart.
"I'll leave, but I don't care what you look like." Sofia turned.
