The chill in the air hit you harder than earlier. Probably because you were so upset at that time, you didn't care if you were flying through an ice storm... you wouldn't have noticed.
Not only was it easy to follow the sounds of blaring car horns and sirens, but it was clear to see the yellow and orange glow of fire seemingly imbedded within the city. It was also not too far from your residence.
You fanned out your wings to take on a more steady pace; hovering lower to get a better view of what you were witnessing.
Street lamps on their sides, asphalt cracked, vehicles upon vehicles on top of one another - or crashed into nearby buildings.
People running in every which direction trying to save themselves... but save themselves from what? You still hadn't seen the threat at bay.
You also hadn't seen any Pro Heroes yet - though the commotion just up ahead seemed to ricochet of authority. Or of battle.
You dared to hover even lower, now seeing a few Sidekicks helping people limp away from the occurring disasters.
"Help! Someone, please help!"
The cry for help instantly caught your attention as you swooped down with a hard landing upon the splitting concrete.
A middle aged man waved to you, your impressive wings enough validation in his eyes to ask for your help.
"Please, Miss!" His eyes were wide with fear. "I don't know if you're a Hero or not, but my wife! She's stuck under our car!"
"Where is she?"
Without hesitation, the man jogged a few yards down the street with you in tow.
You kept your eyes watchful of your surroundings - still clueless as to what had caused all of this destruction.
The man then dropped to his hands and knees in front of a vehicle that was flipped upside down. "Honey! I've brought help!"
"Hurry!" The woman cried out. "Before they come back! T-they attacked, but spared me. Please... I don't want to be taken by those monsters!"
You didn't have time to think, and only acted upon your training. "Ma'am, are you hurt?" You asked as you leaned down to get a view of her frightened face through the drivers side window.
"No, I just can't get out!" Tears streamed down her panic stricken face.
The man stood up and tried opening the dented door, and to no avail - it didn't budge.
"Ma'am, I need you to shield your face." You instructed. "Move as far away from the windshield as you can."
You then positioned yourself to the front of the car. You raised your hand as a very faint blue hue emanated from your fist, hardening it like an ice encasing.
With one quick glace at the woman to ensure that she was shielding herself, you reached down, forced your fingers through the thick glass as if it were butter, and gripped it. And with one quick motion - you ripped off the entire windshield from the car - giving the woman an easy escape.
"Thank you!" The man cried out - as you and him reached down to help the woman out.
"Get to safety." You instructed.
The couple nodded and were soon fleeing the scene.
You looked around, and proceeded to where the cries, crashing, and sirens were the loudest.
You helped a civilian here and there get to safety, as you made your way around the block. It looked as if you were following a path of carnage. Whatever was causing such chaos - surely had a purpose. And a big one at that - judging from the damage that's been inflicted.
