Skye's POV
I watch Clem. She looks around the room with her dark eyes. She looks nervous, so i decide to start with the basic questions. "Are you and winter sisters?" Clem nods, still not looking at me.
Coulson walks in holding an icer. I turn to Clem. She's gripping the side of her chair, her gaze fixated on his gun. "Coulson, you don't need that." I say, nodding to the icer. He tilts his head. "We need to assess the situation first, Skye. Its protocol."
Clem is looking at both of us. She rests her cheek on her palm. "Why were you fighting?" I ask gently. Coulson puts his gun in its holder on his belt.
"I was fighting the dangerous people so they couldn't hurt them." Clem says.
"Hurt who?" I ask.
Clem shifts in her seat and i see Coulson furrow his brow. she breaks the silence. "I don't know. Everyone, I guess..." She trails off. Me and Coulson share a look. She wants to protect the public. "Clem," she looks at me and my tone softens, "the safety of the public isn't your responsibility, is it?"
She tugs at her curls and bites her lip. "Be careful," I say, "don't tear open your cut." She stops and says, "If no one else protects them, I have to."
I watch her staring at the table. She seems to have strong morals - the principles S.H.I.E.LD was founded upon. She's a good fighter. I had thought she was too young to be a Hydra agent, but with a guide, she could be an asset. Winter too.
I shake the thought from my head. "In the van, you said your parents wouldn't worry if you were gone. Why is that?" Coulson looks interested and so am I. Clem hesitates before speaking. " They sent us away. Anything but completely normal was wrong to them. I hated them and they hate me."
I can see the pain in her eyes, awaked by the memory of her parents. I swallow the lump in my throat and prepare to ask her another question, but Coulson takes over. "Where did they send you?"
Clem clears her throat. "Nowhere..." She pauses, tugging at the too long sleeve of her jacket. "What are you going to do with me and Winter?" Coulson smiles.
"That depends." He says.
"I'm not Hydra." Clem whispers.
"Clem," I start. She looks at me. "We know."
Bobbi's POV
I walk into the interrogation room to question Winter. May follows with an icer. I turn around. " do you really think she'll do anything?" I ask. May walks past me into the room. "It's protocol, Bobbi. You should know that by now."
Winter sits in the black chair and I sit down across from her. "Hi, winter." I say, not certain how to begin with someone this young. "Hi." She replies in a soft voice. "So, what were you and Clem doing on the bridge today?"
Winter's hair is shorter than clem's I notice. her curls are tighter, and she's taller. "We were running away." She says hesitantly like she's only half sure of what she's saying.
"Running from what?" I ask. She shrugs. "Answer the question" says May coldly. I shoot May a look.
"Alright," I say, " well, why did you fight Hydra?"
"That stone was dangerous," Winter says. " they would've hurt people."
"And what would you have done with it?" May asks.
Winter stares thoughtfully at the table for a few moments before looking up. "we could have shot it into space." I grin.
"I heard you fought well. Where did you learn to fight?" Winter pauses before shrugging again. She stares at the floor. "hey," I say, " are you alright?" She nods, looking up at me with a faint smile.
"Are you going to shoot me with that?" She asks, motioning towards the gun in May's hand. "Of course not." I say. "If necessary." says May.
"I want to know," i say gently, leaning towards Winter, "Where you get all these ideas from." Winter's dark eyes lock with mine. "What ideas?" She asks.
"Cloaking yourself, sending dangerous things to space..." I trail off, leaving her to look at the wall behind me in silence. I lean over and down so she's looking at me. "Where do these thoughts come from?"
Winter looks slightly confused. She shrugs. "I just thought... That might be a good idea. Me and Clem talk about ideas all the time" I smile. If Clem can think like this too, we've got two new assets on board. I lean back in my seat and look at her. "you're creative, you know."
Coulson's POV
"I know what you're thinking, Skye, but we cant bring them onto our team. They're too young." Skye sighs. "Coulson, they'd make good agents, and thinking of how young they are, imagine how great they could be." Skye says.
Bobbi and May emerge from the interogation room. "Where's Clem?" Bobbi asks. "She's in the sitting area," says coulson, "did you ask how old they are?" He asks.
Bobbi nods. "Yeah, they're fourteen." I shake my head. "Too young to be agents. We'll have to return them."
Anger whistles in Skye's eyes. "Return them? Return them where? To a family that hates them? That sent them away to who knows where? Coulson, I understand your worries, but I will be an SO if that's what you want. Please, I know they can both do this."
I can tell its what skye wants, and Bobbi quietly agrees. I look to May. "May? What do you think?" I ask. May looks at the closed door of the interrogation room and replies, "if we're trying to rebuild Shield, this is the way to do it."
I look at my team and give them a nod. "Let's talk to them about it. Go sit with Clem. I'll get Winter."
