Chapter 26
Sitting in front of my computer, I look at the screen and try to focus on emailing my cabinet members, needing to set a date for a meeting before I head over to the meeting with the Generals. Sky had shocked me when he confessed he wanted to be the Captain of my Elite guards. I wanted to refuse, to ignore his request, but instead I asked for some time to think and ran to hide away in here before the Guards went about their day either patrolling or training. My Elite were given a tour of the Palace thanks to Ellisia and Adam while Sky and Arian went to finalize the plan for arresting those in cahoots with Juden.
And I went to hide with the intention of doing work.
The door to my Study opens and Adam walks in, Ellisia following right away with a tray of snacks and sweet tea.
"You okay Alli?" He asks, coming to sit in the armchair in front of my desk while Ellisia sets the tray down.
"No. Sky wants to be a part of my Elite." I admit honestly, Adam letting out a low whistle.
"I mean, it makes sense. He is always by your side protecting you and Arian usually performs the duty of Captain of the Guards." Ellisia chimes in, handing me a glass of sweet tea.
"Do you think he would be better as Captain of my Elite?" I ask the two, Adam and Ellisia looking to one another before facing me.
"Honestly, yes. Arian has been a part of the Guards since he was ten and under Sir Carlos Remone tutelage. He is twenty nine now with more experience than most men." Ellisia answers, taking a seat on the other arm chair and biting into a chocolate chip cookie. I sigh, leaning back into my chair and taking a moment to think.
"I will need to make these changes after the meeting then and instate them tomorrow." I finally concede, realising that Ellisia and Adam are correct. Sky will be better by my side and I his and Arian has proven more then capable of leading the Palace Guards. These two will still need to work together when it comes to planning my safety, but the Elite will remain separate from the regular guards.
"Well, we have work to do. Adam is helping me train my maids in self defense today." Ellisia stands from her chair, Adam quickly helping her to her feet. I smile, wishing them luck and find myself able to focus once again. I pull up the draft for the cabinet meeting on my email, double checking that the list of Politicians and Nobels are correct on the recipient line before sending the email. I have it set for three days from now, needing to correct all these laws for the good of Nimairene.
Looking to the binder on my desk, I frown. After seven days of going through the laws made in the last fourteen years, I found fifty that hinder the success of the citizens but boost those of the already rich. With a sigh, I take the binder and lock it away in my desk. The last thing I need is someone sneaking in and stealing it before I bring these to the attention of my Cabinet meeting.
"Alli, meeting is in thirty minutes." My Study door opens once again and in walks Sky and Arian, the two contrasting one another. Arian's black hair is tied at the top if his head, the long strands flowing freely from the ribbon that keeps them together. His height is just slightly shorter than sky, but both men scream soldiers in their uniforms with their guns holstered to the right and swords on the left.
"I guess we should head on over to the Throne Room then." I shrug, picking up the binder set aside for todays meeting and rising from my chair and leading the way out of my Study. Opening my door, I stop when I notice outside the five Guards I met earlier are waiting along the far wall. The girls are dressed in a similar style to me, the men in regular Guard uniforms.
"Captain Sky told us we need to dress the part of Ladies in waiting." Alice steps forward, taking the blue binder from my hand with a smile on her friendly face. Thanking her, I lead the way to the Throne Room, my heels clicking on the floor. Today will be another momentous day in claiming my country back as the rightful heir.
Arian and Sky stand on either side of me, Arian holding out a list of men attending the meeting. Each name is listed under a picture. If they have a star next to their name, they are loyal and trust worthy. Anyone without a star is set to be arrested today.
"This is yours for the meeting. There is one new General that is not listed." Handing me the list, Arian lets out a sigh as he finishes explaining about this new General. Surprised, I look to the last name and try to decide what I should do with this information.
"Taylor Knight. Sounds like a strong person." I joke, handing the list to Alice for her and the others to memories, explaining the star detail to them. As we reach the doors to the Throne Room, two Guards salute us and Alice asks me what to do with the list. After telling her to place it in the binder so I can glace at it when needed, I nod to the Guards Mathew and John to open the doors.
With a deep breath and reassurance from those with me, I walk into the room with my head health high. These old fools waiting for me will have no idea what is about to hit them.
