Harry dashed into the cabin, quickly shutting the door against the storm raging outside. Clifford's fur was frizzy and standing up in all directions, but he seemed quite happy to have gotten a 2-hour-long walk. He unclipped Cliff's leash, letting him bound towards the living room.

"Lou? Where are you?"

"In here!"

He heard a shout from their bedroom and made his way down the corridor, stopping only to grab a forgotten cup of tea Louis must have made himself before getting distracted by something. Five years had passed since they had left behind their old lives, but not much had changed about the cottage since then - apart from the kitchen being much cleaner.

Continuing down the corridor, Harry eventually found Louis buried in his computer, sprawling over the bed. "Oh, did I abandon my tea in the kitchen?"

"Mhmm, you did." Harry replied, setting the tea on the bedside table before moving to peer over Louis' shoulder. "Working?" Louis tilted his head up for a kiss and Harry obliged him, "Yeah, these guys are giving me some real shit." Harry smiled, remembering back to when he found out that Louis actually had a law degree - he had laughed, thinking it was a joke, but the older man was 100% serious.

The mafia had crumbled, thanks to both of them. Due to an overwhelming amount of evidence turned in by two anonymous sources, a police raid had been conducted on several buildings. Rumour had it, the two infamous assassins Raven and Thanatos had died in one of them, both shot on sight, the building bombed before any bodies could be recovered. No one had ever figured out who set off the bombs.

Harry had gone back into the medical field as soon as he could, regaining his title as junior paramedic and slowly working up to be the paramedic captain (the title he had earned just after his 28th birthday), becoming the youngest captain he had heard of. His team now consisted of a new guy Liam, and one of Louis' old hospital contacts – Zayn. He loved them to bits, and they hung out with the newly engaged couple plus Niall every weekend.

Harry glanced at the shining ring on his finger, and back at Louis before sitting down on the bed next to him. Louis closed his laptop and rolled over, propping himself up so he could see Harry, following his gaze, "I still can't believe you agreed to marry me, why did you?"

Harry grinned, "Although you were always the darkest person in the room, I always thought of you as a ray of light in my head,"

Louis rolled his eyes, "How sentimental,"

"Seriously, Louis – I mean it." He smiled, leaning down to drop a kiss on his nose. Louis giggled, slapping him away before settling into his chest, leaning over to whisper in his ear,

"We're a mess you and I, but the truth is you captivate me in ways no other soul ever will."
