Agitation

The alarm clock is
flashing to the
Same rhythm as
the migraine from
last night's leftovers.

Blindly I stumble,
Brush with the wrong toothbrush because I refused to open my weary eyes
Stub my toe on the shower's edge
And haphazardly brush my hair because today
Is not
My day.

Did I dream too heavy?
Five more minutes really could have saved me
I know it could have.
But I guess we'll never really know because I put the milk in the cabinet, and the cereal in the fridge
Which now tastes of
uncovered bell pepper. Blech!

That reminds me-- my shoelaces are brown and disgusting from the muddy puddle I swore wasn't that deep.
My shirt won't stay tucked,
I feel bloated like a beached whale and oh yeah,
Today I give my presentation.
No time for nervous butterflies,
I'm too late to realize that traffic is slowing from new construction and I missed the signs a mile away.
The grandma in her Oldsmobile is out for a Sunday drive;
Guess she forgot
Today is Tuesday.
Come on, let's go! I'm seconds away from screaming at the top of my lungs while laying on the car horn, honking in competition with the geese that just covered my windshield in--gross!

Great Saints alive,
I can see the entrance to the building, the door I need is right tbere! But there's always something,
Something more to add-- oh where to park? Why is there a bus in this freakishly small lot?
I've 5 minutes to begin my speech!

There's a single spot, I channel my inner NASCAR racer and slingshot my car into place,
Flying out the door as this race must be finished by foot!

I dash away, maybe I'll make it- two minutes I can do this
I'm almost there, almost turning this whole day around by saving it for the final stretch of redemption I open the door to the room filled with patiently waiting peers and I slide on ice into a front row seat.
I've done it!
I've made it!
I've changed the fate of the day!
But then, once more a shadow is cast
As I'm flipping through my calendar of events and there it shows
"Presentation day is
....
Tomorrow.

Just another day,
Another time and place
For more agitation.
