The ride was long. They had been sitting in a cooped up carriage for nearly 6 hours without any legroom and barely any breaks. It was rough too, constantly jittering and moving, making every attempt at sleeping utterly useless. The 'place' they were staying at was a small tent, battered and bruised with dirt, dust and other things Harry was afraid of mentioning. It was small too, barely standing. Harry was afraid that if he tried to enter it, it would fall apart almost instantly.
Malfoy was the first to speak "God that looks ghastly doesn't it"
Harry looked over to Malfoy, his shoulder still sore from being pressed right up against Draco for the entirety of that stupid coach ride.
Harry sighed "I'm sure it's for deception purposes, it's usually nicer on the inside" Harry hopefully suggested softly.
Malfoy bit his lip, his brow furrowed with obvious worry, his knuckles white from clutching his suitcase so hard.
Malfoy swallowed, "Welp there is no use denying the inevitable, shall we head in?" Malfoy gestured to the alarming tent. His hands were shaky, and when he went to clear his throat Harry could swear he saw a nervous sweat trickle down his neck.
Harry decided to ignore it and instead went through the tent. As Harry opened the curtains, being very careful not to accidentally ruin their accommodation, Harry was pleasantly surprised with the quaint nature of the place. It looked like the inside of a small cottage, a small kitchen on one side, and beds on the other side, with two nice couches and a fireplace in the middle . It wasn't bad in the slightest, but Harry felt that if he were to jump he might become concussed.
"Potter? What's the hold up?" Malfoy called from behind him.
Harry smirked when he thought of what to say "Oh god it's terrible" Harry said trying his best to sound terrified.
"What?" Malfoy spat back.
"Oh Malfoy- there are rats everywhere"
"Rat's?" he said, sounding more unsure
"And mould Malfoy it's atrocious it's absolutely-!" Before Harry could continue Malfoy pushed past him "-adequate" Harry finished with a small smile.
Malfoy glared at him making Harry chuckle as he walked around the room "It's not so bad is it Malfoy?"
Malfoy hummed in response, seemingly still pissed off at Harry for his little joke (Harry rolled his eyes at that, come on, did the git not know how to have a little fun?)
"Well" he began "It is adequate" he mumbled before walking to the beds, placing his bags on one and began unpacking.
Harry sighed "Why? Not fancy enough for you?" He originally meant to say that with more of a joking tone, but the fatigue he gained from the ride etched his voice with boredom, and perhaps a little bit of spite. After all, Malfoy had always been given the finest of things.
Malfoy sharply turned, his eyebrows creased "Are you serious?"
Harry felt his heart drop, he hadn't meant to sound like a dick- He really hadn't- But for some reason with the way Malfoy was staring at him, he felt like he had to protect himself.
"What? I was just saying" Harry mumbled. Which was incredibly stupid, why was he acting like such a bitch? God he needs a nap.
Malfoy scoffed, shaking his head "Just-" He breathed in and out continuing to unpack "nevermind"
Harry suddenly felt insecure from that answer "What?" he asked meekly. Sleep. He really needed it.
Malfoy just turned to him with a dead expression, breathing "The trip was long, we're exhausted, and If we continue talking we're gonna end up acting like assholes, so let's just spend the rest of the night quiet." He said walking past him, putting his own cups and bowls into the pantry.
