Dad grumbled and glared at Aiden from a much higher position. Although it seemed like Aiden could easily overpower my Dad with his size, the aura emanating from my Dad was much more intimidating.
"Uh... Dad."
"Stay quiet!"
Aiden fell into contemplation as Dad growled through his words, and it was understandable given the scene he had just witnessed. However, his tightly sealed lips did not exude an air of ease despite his age. Aiden just stood there, but in Dad's eyes, it might have appeared as if he was showing fear.
Dad confronted him with an unfamiliar face, i never seen before.
"You! I called you to take care of Seowon, not to devour him!"
"Dad... Your voice is too loud."
The commotion and loud voices raised concerns outside the door. Aiden, heeding my words, shifted and securely locked the door. He evidently didn't want to make Dad a spectacle and dared not show any sign of defiance.
"I'm sorry, Uncle."
Boldly approaching, Aiden knelt down, causing Dad to take an unexpected step back in confusion. Dad stood still for a moment, then placed the abalone and ginseng chicken soup he brought on the sofa. Gently pounding his chest, he chanted, "I can't live, I can't live" and Aiden and I instinctively lowered our heads.
At that time, a problem arose. Even though I was dying of sadness for Aiden kneeling on the cold floor, my mouth was watering at the faint smell of chicken. Wiping away a cold sweat from my forehead, I alternated glances between Aiden, Dad, and the abalone and ginseng chicken soup on the sofa. Expressing the desire to eat at this moment would undoubtedly lead to an awkward situation.
Unable to contain his frustration, Dad took a deep breath, enveloping the hospital room in a brief silence. The slightest disturbance seemed poised to unleash a palpable tension, as if something significant would happen at any moment. However...
...Grumble!
Just then, a thunderous sound pierced the air. With the crisp air lingering, Aiden and Dad's eyes instantly fixed on me.
"Seowon! Hungry?"
Despite my Dad's gruff tone, he genuinely inquired about my well-being. Feeling like an unparalleled glutton, my face blushed with embarrassment. Dad, with a furrowed brow, redirected his attention to Aiden.
"My kid has been starving for a week. Do you know that? While you roam around, meddling in this and that, he's been starving, unable to eat or sleep, and you're busy with your nonsense..."
There was no way Aiden knew that. He just quietly listened to my father's rapid-fire rebuke, which was far from the truth.
"I see, Seowon has lost too much weight lately."
Aiden's innocent words triggered Dad's anger to skyrocket.
"He's been complaining all this time! Couldn't endure a moment of it!"
Dad reluctantly approached Aiden and gave his back a resounding smack. Aiden remained as still as a statue, making it awkward, but the sound of Dad's hand hitting his back echoed loudly. Thankfully, it didn't result in a broken jaw or nose. If Aiden had ended up with bruises on his face, my heart would undoubtedly ache even more.
