The flower crown crumpled in Aiden's hand eventually rolled onto the deck. In disarray, with our wedding attire and hair tangled, I was carried home by Aiden.
As it was nearing noon, the yard of our villa was bustling with preparations for the feast.
The first person to greet us was Minhyuk, holding Joy in his arms.
"Ughh, you guys are nasty."
"What?"
"Jung Seowon, why didn't you fasten your buttons? I'm getting second hand embarrassment, really."
Minhyuk teased, shaking his head, while Joy bounced in his arms.
We may have looked disheveled, but we hadn't done anything more than hug each other, so his words felt unfair.
As I descended from Aiden's back, I gently touched Joy's nose.
"Did you have a good time with Uncle?"
"Yup."
As Aiden ruffled her hair, Joy reached out her arms, exclaiming, "Daddy!"
With two dads, Joy called me "Papa" and Aiden "Daddy." Naturally, as she learned Korean and English, she never seemed confused about who to call, which was fortunate, as there was no need for further explanation.
As Joy nestled into Aiden's arms, I quickly buttoned up two open buttons. Minhyuk bent down, even going so far as to smooth out the wrinkles in my pants and brush off the dirt.
Holding Joy with one arm, Aiden gave Minhyuk a cold look.
"Touching him little won't hurt. Just calm down, seriously."
As if his eyes were on the top of his head, Minhyuk immediately noticed Aiden's gaze.
Anyway, the last person to tidy up my appearance was Aiden. After handing Joy back to Minhyuk, he took a moment to straighten my hair before stepping aside.
Soon, my dad appeared, his eyes red. Aiden's father, James, who had accompanied my dad, appeared equally apprehensive, as if fearing my dad might burst into tears at any moment with just a gentle nudge.
My dad had been staying at the villa in New York for a month now, bonding with Mister during his visits to the United States.
Today, he even wore a suit similar to Mister.
"Son, did the wedding go well?"
"Yes."
"I understand wanting it to be just the two of you quietly, but I'm sad I couldn't see it. Right, in-law?"
As someone who married a Korean, James understands the meaning of the word "in-law" better than anyone else.
"I told you not to call me that."
"Well then, what should I call you, in-law?"
As my dad chuckled mischievously, Mister shook his head, just like Aiden.
Whether it was due to our presence or in spite of it, the bond between the two dads, who we saw more frequently, grew stronger with each passing day. Witnessing their growing closeness served as a reminder of their youthfulness. At their age, some might even be experiencing their first weddings.
Yet here they were, our dads, embracing their roles as grandfathers.
Now that I have a family in the United States, I worried about my dad being alone if he returned to Korea. However, whenever i brought the topics of dating and remarriage, my dad cut me off with a surprising decisiveness.
