background story: when Joker was a young boy (and was still only known as Jack Jones), he lived happily with his mother and father in their manor. Until the day his parents died in a plane accident while on their way back home from a trip. Young Jack refused to believe his parents were dead, and isolated himself inside his manor, waiting for the day his parents would return home (even though deep down, he knew it would never happen). Jack also worked hard to keep burglars from stealing his family's treasures, by using the various of security traps within the manor. But one day, Jack received a advance notice from the legendary Phantom Thief, Silver Heart, saying he was going to steal the "Time Telling Goddesses" clock from the manor. Sliver Heart also tried to convince young Jack to come out of his grief-stricken isolation, but Jack refused to listen and dropped a washbasin on Silver Heart's head. Jack didn't think phantom thieves was anything special until he witnessed the miracles of a Phantom Thief when Silver Heart saved him from being killed by Professor Clover and Doubt, who were after the same treasure. Young Jack was so inspired that he made the decision right then and there to one day become a great phantom thief like Silver Heart. So Jack snuck into Silver Heart's plane and made it perfectly clear that he had no intention of going back home. Silver Heart refused at first, but changed his mind when he saw how determined Jack was. So Silver Heart made Jack his apprentice and took Jack to his home to live with him. Jack did his intense phantom thief training alongside Silver Heart's granddaughter, Diamond Queen, a young boy named King (who later became a phantom thief known as, Kaitou Spade), and a enhanced talking dog called Roko. Joker was still a young boy when he got the scar on his left eye. A gun bullet had grazed him during a fail attempt to protect his newly made friend, Rose, from being kidnapped by Professor Clover. Joker always keeps his scar covered up with waterproof indigo-colored sticker, even when he's sleeping or taking a bath. After his training with Silver Heart, he entered the Phantom Thief Academy, along with Queen, King, and Roko from which they all graduated before becoming professionals. It was then that Jack Jones gave himself the new name, Kaitou Joker, and began his phantom thief adventures.
