Chapter V : I'm crying? I'm not crying...Xander finally got back the confidence he lost and stood straight proudly.
But the second he stood in front of the gate, he froze in fear. His legs shook uncontrollably, heart beat was inhumanely fast. Mel could feel his sweaty palms as Xander wanted to hold hands. Beads of sweat were on his forehead, hidden by his bangs. Xander wanted to bury himself, hide in his room forever. He regretted coming here, he would rather die than gain favor by a cold emperor.
Mel let his hand go, making Xander more anxious, contemplating his life choices. Although Mel was looked calm, but if one were to notice, she was shaking a bit. Mel saw a butler walking towards them and bowed, she noticed that Xander was still in his own world and gave him a small pat on the shoulder.
This made Xander shriek and snap out of his thoughts. He almost had a heart attack, he looked towards Mel but saw another figure. A tall average looking man with a well toned body, he had a fierce look, his eyes were sharp and observing. He then changed his facial expression to that of a warm welcoming servant.
He bowed and escorted the two stiff people.
The three of them walked down the hallway. One professional looking man, a lady looking nervous, and a small boy moving awkwardly. No one dared to say a word. He was not used to such silence when not alone, both in this life and the past. Xander took up all his courage and open his mouth to release a word.
"Sir?"
Very quietly, very softly that both adults barely heard it. Fortunately the butler had great hearing, he looked at Xander who scratched his neck stiffly. He smiled softly.
"There is no need for Your Highness to call me, but mere servant, so formally."
His words sounded so professional. No wonder, he looked like he was in his early thirties, for sure he worked in the castle for many years.
Despite looking quite sweet on the outside, Xander was still wary. It was right for him to be, his mind was not so innocent. The butler was asked directly by the Emperor to be their escort, to test wether the prince was decent in terms of etiquette. To judge if he was worthy enough as a prince.
He didn't deny that he thought of Xander as nothing but a typical noble child. No manners, no proper etiquette, spoiled and prideful of his position. But when Xander called him a "sir", even the usual stoic man was caught of guard.
"Then what should i call you sir?"
Xander was anxious, if he would offend the butler by calling him wrongly. The man didn't even thought for a second and answered trying to maintain his smile,
"Thus butler's name is Kristian, Your Highness can call me with whatever you would want."
Expecting to be called by his name, he flinched when Xander suddenly shouted "Uncle!". His eyes widened as he looked down, his eyes laid onto Xander who froze and covered his mouth with his hand.
