S.I.X.

Eliza had gone home slowly, trying to recover from the incident at the park. She had arrived home around 4:45pm. She had almost an hour and a half before she had to be ready to meet Marilyn and she was pretty excited about the alone time she would be able to have until then.

It seemed like this whole day went by so quickly and that she had been running the whole time. Eliza let her emotions crawl over her while she lay in her bedroom. Her thoughts crippled her and she began to cry. It was silent, but, she cried into her pillow, still. Hugh, her cat, jumped onto her bed, and then snuggled up to her cheek, pawing at her shoulder gently.

Eliza looked up and pet the cats head softly. "Thank you Hughy. I missed you." she said as she continued to rub behind the cats ears. Hugh purred in response.

"I'm just not sure what went on today, Hughy..." she paused as she rolled over onto her back and let her cat crawl onto her stomach.

"Ezra and I aren't friends anymore. We've been so close for three years, and we had to stop.being friends because he continued to believe Marie's lies, and he hurt me tonight…or he tried to. I'm just so tired of her coming into my life and ruining everything." she explained as if the cat could respond, even though Hughy was closing his eyes and snoring lightly.

"It's just ridiculous." she sighed gently. Slowly moving her cat to the pillow beside her, Eliza checked the time. 5:15pm. She had a little bit, so she went into the bathroom and began to style her hair as best as she could. Her hair wasn't easily styled, and so she braided it on the sides and wrapped it around into a bun on top of her head. Then, she washed her face, and put on makeup. Dark eyeliner, black smokey eye shadow, light concealer, and dark lipstick. Then, she walked out of the bathroom, and then into her closet. She had a lot of formal clothes that her mom had picked out, and one or two dresses that she'd picked out herself. Eliza finally decided on the black, backless dress that fell to the ground smoothly, with a slit that came all the way up to her hip bone on the right side. She slid on her short black heels and then stretched before she walked to the desk where her phone was. 5:45pm. Good timing, she thought to herself.

Putting the phone in the small black clutch she would carry with her, she grabbed a black sheer jacket and put it on over the dress before she headed downstairs where she could hear her mother rustling around in the kitchen. Eliza walked into the kitchen and saw her mother and some man standing beside her. Confusion struck her, "Mother, who is this?" she demanded.

Audra Schroeder snapped her head around, and her mouth dropped open, the man beside her also gaped at Eliza. "Angelique, you are beautiful." she mouthed softly, before bringing herself back to reality, "Oh, sorry---This....This is Merrick." she waved her hand in her guests direction.

Eliza blinked, "Merrick?" she asked softly.

He smiled and nodded, "Yes, I am your Mother's Yoga Instructer, she came home really late today because we had a new instructer interning, and they took a rather long time, I'm afraid." he explained.

But that still didn't explain why he was here, but Eliza realized that she would be late if she waited any longer, and something scared her about making Marilyn wait, and she didn't want anything else to go wrong today. "Well, nice to meet you. Momma....I'm going now. Marilyn is waiting for me." she said softly.

Mrs. Schroeder hugged her daughter and wished her good luck, and watched as she strolled out to her car and drove off. Mrs. Schroeder turned to face Merrick and she smiled.
