T.E.N.

Shadows

Eliza followed Marilyn's car down the roads of their town, and she sighed to herself as emotion overwhelmed her. It always did that when she was alone. Only thing was, her mind was not settling on one thing, it was all of it, all at once. Eliza was so angry at her mother for doing this to her. For kicking her out because she wanted to do something for herself for once. Eliza wasn't really that upset about Merrick anymore, she knew that her mother needed her space, and her romance, but she didn't know why it had to be revealed to her the way it had been. Eliza was still thinking about Ezra, only a little, though. She'd been in love with him, she thought. They were friends for three straight years with no problems, and suddenly, out of nowhere, they weren't even speaking anymore.

Ezra had shown to have a temper before, but it had never been so bad that he would actually physically hurt her like he did in the park. The part where his hand clamped onto her jaw still ached to the touch, and her wrists were bruised. Eliza was disappointed in him, more than anything. Her heart ached when she thought of never kissing him again, or how awkward show choir would be if she returned, but some part of her knew that there would be other boys to kiss, and much more important things to do than kiss boys anyway. Eliza was now worried as to where she would be staying for a while, and was fearful that she would have to sleep in her car, even though Marilyn had said he knew a place.

They turned on a road that led to the top of a hill in town. Eliza then realized where they were headed. They were going to the top of of the hilltop. That's where the mansion was, his family mansion he'd mentioned to her before in conversation, and the one her mother was essentially obsessed with.

Eliza remembered the first time they started discussing this tour thing. Marilyn had told her that it would take a few months before he completely welcomed her, only because he had to train her for the actual touring--seeing as it would take a lot out of anyone physically, if they weren't prepared--and he would have to take a while to get to know her. Then, he would introduce her to the entire group.

Eliza looked up out of her window when they got to the driveway of the mansion. Once they got closer to it, it towered over her car like a castle. It was almost the size of a castle if you'd looked at it from Eliza's point of view. Hugh, in the back seat, began.    to meow annoyingly. Eliza chuckled, "Hang on, Hugh-y, we're almost there." she said gently as they drove around a circle and then parked in front of the entrance.

Strangely enough, from the center of town, the mansion looked like it was abandoned, or run down, but up close to it, it was the exact opposite. There were bushes that had been freshly cut, watered and groomed, the same with flowers along the sidewalks that led to side courtyards where yet another plethora of gardens seemed to be blooming. Eliza loved summertime, because everything was colorful. 'Even Marilyn Manson’s house is colorful.' Eliza thought to herself, amused. When she saw Marilyn get out of his car, she followed suit, placing Hugh inside of the beach bag that held his bowls, food, and fluffy blanket on top of all of that so that he could sit in it comfortably.

Once the moonlight graced the top parts of the mansion’s roof, it seemed to light up the entire household. Eliza noticed that it was made out of stone, dark greys tone, and was trimmed in black. The windows were stained glass, and there were two huge gargoyles on the very top tower, where a loud bell was hung. Eliza wondered if she'd ever heard a bell going off. Her eyes, as usual, clung to the architecture, and she began to wonder who could be so massive as to build this house, or carve those gargoyles that were twice the size of a huge man.
