I turned around to see the girl, Mia, it had been dark when I'd seen her last but I could tell it was her. "Yeah, you wanted to see me? " I questioned. "I'm going to be forward with you we have to team up me you and a couple of other people, " Mia stated. "Wait who is going to be teaming up with us? " I asked. "I'm not sure but Charlie wants to be in a group, but I'm not sure he'll be much help. We could just team up, just the 2 of us, and pretend he's in our group. " She smirked. "You mean like, sabotage him? " I furrowed my brows. "Of course, I mean he wouldn't be that good at courses he told me that himself, plus he is kind of a crybaby I almost feel bad for him.." She coldly added. "Um I'm not sure, but I'll think about it," I awkwardly muttered. "Okay good cause I'm not sure we would survive without teaming," she said.
Mia walked away shortly after our conversation and left me there stunned. "I thought she was nice, when I met her she was, although I didn't even get to talk to her about anything much." In my dazed state, I didn't even notice that Rowan had walked up to me. "Hey Dylan...Dylan!" He called out. I turned my head towards him slightly, still keeping my eyes in the same area. "Hm," I murmured. "What did she want you for?" Rowan asked. "Who?" I responded. "Are you even listening to me, Mia the girl you were just talking to? What did she want to talk to you about?" He questioned. "Oh, yeah I wasn't really listening but, she asked if I wanted to team up with her.." I answered. "..And who else?" Rowan said. "That's the thing, she didn't want anyone else to be with us. Or at least not knowing anyone who would want to be in our group right now. She just said that it could just be us and she wanted to sabotage the little kid over there, Charlie, " I uttered.
"Sabotage him? But he's just a kid!" Rowan leaned in. "Yeah I know, Mia said she 'felt bad for him' but then said how he'd be no help trying to win, so I and I should just pretend to be a team and then just sacrifice him. She then said that we'd have no chance of winning if we didn't team up. Which might be true but I'm pretty sure I might have a chance, " I said worriedly. ".. So are you going to team up with her?" Rowan asked. "Although working together would be a smart option, the way she was so quick to say she was going to sabotage Charlie, makes me think she might not care about me either, " I mentioned.
"Yeah that sounds smart, but since you aren't teaming up with her how about teaming with me?" Rowan questioned. "Just us?" I responded. "Just us. I feel like it would be easier with just us, we trust each other, there's no other people that could sabotage us if it's just me and you, and I trust you to believe you won't sacrifice me, " He spoke. "Those are good reasons and I trust you won't sabotage me either right? " I requested. "Right," Rowan promised.
I felt better that Rowan thought the same "At least I'm not crazy" I laughed a little. The blond boy tapped me on the shoulder, "Come on dude I'm pretty sure there's a couple of other people we're yet to meet," he said with that I followed Rowan to the crowd of other people and the Keeper of this place. Despite the amount of people around it was quiet, too quiet, the kind of silence made me feel as if I had missed something. Something important otherwise people wouldn't be standing there so tranquil. He stopped behind a black-haired girl waiting for someone to start any kind of conversation.
The keeper was standing there with 5 guards, "He must be scared if he has so many people around him" I smirked. It looked like he was reading a paper on a clipboard as if he had to say the next things he was going to say right the first time. He licked his lips, cleared his throat, and looked up at the group of kids standing in front of him. "Well, what are you guys standing here for?" The keeper chuckled. "Come on dude don't be a smart alic," someone from the crowd said annoyed. "Yeah tell us when the hell the other games start" I heard another say. "Okay, okay I won't keep you on your toes for too long" The keeper laughed again. "Who the heck does this guy think he is" I scoffed, "if he's laughing this much this whole thing better be a joke"
"So it can start right now but I do have to retell the rules. I'm sure most of you are wondering how this will work, even though I said it already I know none of you were listening to me, " He laughed another time and waited before he spoke again almost like he was waiting for someone to laugh in such a serious moment like this. "So like I said the winner of the 'Royalty' in this case Lucas-" He stopped before he was cut off. "Look freak, " he scowled as he stepped closer to the keeper with a fist clenched. "It's Luke not 'Lucas', and will you stop messing around and tell us what the hell is going to happen? I lost all of my patience with you and this stupid place, " he stepped closer just a foot away from The Keeper. "So tell us, what's going to happen before you get picked to be in a death game," he declared.
"Okay, " Mr. K said somehow keeping his cool. "Like I said before the Royal of the game aka Luke," he shot a menacing side eye directly at the black-haired boy who had just yelled at him. "Will pick 2 contestants out of all of you and the 2 will fight to the death, there's your explanation" he said as he started to walk away. "Wait, " Luke started, "I don't even know all their names, " he spat. "Oh right, " Mr K turned back looking slightly annoyed. "Everyone introduce yourselves, starting with... You, " he pointed past me to a girl with curly red hair and dark black eyes. She sighed then spoke, "Hey I'm Harper," she turned to The Keeper, "Do we have to say an interesting fact or something cause I'm not the one for Icebreakers, " she finished with a couple of chuckles from the crowd. "No, just call on someone else until everyone's done, " Mr. K shrugged.
She pointed to a girl with brown hair, hazel eyes, and freckles across her light skin. The girl waved to everyone, "Hi my name is Aniyah, nice to meet you I guess." She said before tapping the chubby kid who was crying earlier on the shoulder. He looked up to all of us, he was a pretty short kid about 5'3 meanwhile all of us were at least 5'6. "Uh my name is Charlie, " he said quickly before pointing randomly at someone, which happened to be Mia. "Hey everyone, I'm Mia nice to meet you all, " she added, then she looked over at me gesturing me to go.
