Chapter 7: True Potential

"Ten minutes. He just broke his own record. The guy's inhuman," Kai said. Zane was currently attempting to see how long he could hold his breath under water and he was doing extremely well. Finally Zane came up above the water, as the ninja excluding Ophelia were in awe of how he had done. "Amazing," Cole cheered. Jay got on his knees, "We are not worthy." "I broke the record?" Zane asked. "You destroyed it," Ophelia congratulated. Jay got off the floor, "Okay, okay. Is anyone thinking what I'm thinking? We've been training for so long, I don't think we can get any better." Which Ophelia knew was not true, as they still had not reached their full potential. "The question has to be raised," Zane says, "Perhaps we have reached our full potential," which causes Ophelia to chuckle slightly. "What is it Ophelia?" Cole asked. "You have not reached your full potential yet," Ophelia said calmly, "You may have reached peak physical condition, but you have yet to reach your inner potential. I'd ask Sensei if I were you, he can probably explain it more fully." After hearing this the ninja quickly went to Sensei's room. "Sensei," Cole starts, "What does true potential look like..." until he realised Sensei was busy when they barged in. They bowed to him. "Apologies, Sensei," Ophelia said, "We did not mean to interrupt you."

"I'm sorry if I have been distant lately," Wu apologised, "My mind has been elsewhere since Lloyd has gone missing." "Sensei, what if we're done training?" Cole asked, "Ophelia says we haven't, but have we reached our full potential? Are we ready?" "I heard your conversation outside," Wu said with a smile, "and it is as Ophelia said, you may have reached peak physical condition, but you have yet to reach your inner potential. You see in each of us there are obstacles that hold us back. Only once you conquer that fear, will your heart be free. Only then will you reach your true potential and have a chance of stopping Pythor from awakening the Great Devourer."

Sensei Wu then went on to explain how the Devourer had bitten his brother, and it was the snake's venom that had turned him into the evil man he was now. "You five have finished your training," Wu said, "You must now focus on stopping Pythor from collecting the four fang blades. But you four must never lose focus on the obstacles that lie within each of your hearts, that hold you back from true greatness. Unlock your true potential." "But how are we supposed to do that, Sensei?" Zane asked. "It is up to each individual to discover," Ophelia responded. "Indeed, now I must go on a personal journey of my own to a place you cannot follow. I believe there is someone there who can be of aid. Until I return, Ophelia is in charge of the ship." "As you wish, Sensei," Ophelia said. After this the Bounty drops Wu off on a mountain top so he can begin his journey while the ninja post missing posters of fang blades in hopes of finding them as Ophelia continues her training while helping Nya with her Samurai X suit.

Later on the Bounty

"Okay, so let me get this straight," Ophelia said as she sat around the table with the ninja, "the falcon is a robot, Zane is a nindroid, and he reached his full potential." Cole, Jay and Zane nodded. "Impressive, I'm glad you finally found your family Zane. Now, we simply need to keep an eye out for Pythor and ensure he doesn't collect the Fang Blades." Ophelia said. Saying this the ninja turn in for the night, happy that they have increased in strength.

The next morning

Today the ninja are sitting in the bridge listening to Nya give a lesson on a Fangpyre skeleton. "Some villagers unearthed the remains of this Fangpyre a few miles away," Nya explained, "It predates the golden age and must be hundreds of years old. Although the venom in the Fangpyre genetically mutates human cells into reptilian, I've learned that there could be a way to stop the effects without having to create an antivenom. If one is able to rapidly raise their heart rate, it could reverse the venom's effects." "Resulting in..." Nya sighed, "...diminished, uh– excuse me, is someone wearing perfume? I am severely allergic to perfume." "Hey. You said it was men's cologne," Jay whispered to Kai. "Eh, I get them mixed up," he replied, causing Kai, Cole and Zane to laugh at the prank they pulled. "Alright, I believe class is over," Ophelia said, "Now we need to keep a watchful eye out for serpentine activity." "Sounds like a plan," "Let's go kick butt," "I'm excited to join," Kai, Cole and Zane responded before heading off. Later while on the bridge Ophelia received reports of serpentine sightings at Mega Monster Amusement Park. "Ninja, I need you on the bridge, we have serpentine activity at Mega Monster Amusement Park," Ophelia said over the speaker, causing the ninja to run in, Jay in fancy clothes as he planned to take Nya on a date. "Hey, that's Pythor!" Jay said, pointing at the screen. "Exactly," Ophelia said, "It's likely a fang blade is hidden there, you need to get down there and stop him." "But my date, Jay whined. "Jay, if Pythor gets all the fang blades he's going to unleash the Great Devourer. Get your priorities straight man!" Kai exclaimed. Saying this the ninja run out to get to the amusement park and stop Pythor.

Arriving at the Amusement Park Ophelia heard Nya telling the other ninja that she was the samurai, and Kai attempting to use this as proof that he was the green ninja. "What really matters right now is that Pythor got away with the Fang Blade, but there are still three left and we only need to get one to stop his plan," Ophelia said, "And congratulations on unlocking your full potential Jay. Sensei would be proud." "Thanks Ophelia, let's get back to the Bounty and plan our next move" Jay said. Hearing this the ninja all got back on the Bounty before they continued their search for the Fangblades.

After discovering that the second fangblade had been turned into a trophy called the Blade Cup, the prize for winning a competition held in Cole's hometown, Cole eventually went home, after a lot of convincing from Ophelia and the other ninja as he did not want his dad to discover he had been lying about learning song and dance at the Marty Oppenheimer School of Performing Arts. So Cole brought the ninja to his father Lou's home and convinced him that they were doing a research project on the blade cup and planning to compete, and with Lou's help practised everyday to win the competition, even though they intended to steal the blade cup. Ultimately Cole's father discovered he was a ninja but after seeing him fight he realised this was who Cole was and that he shouldn't have forced him to follow in his footsteps. However, Pythor managed to steal back the blade cup, but Cole was able to unlock his true potential, his relationship with his father no longer holding him back. And so after this the ninja returned to the Bounty waiting for Sensei Wu to return.
