The sun, despite barely being able to see it due to the snow storm, slowly disappeared beyond the horizon.
With all of their guests being situated in rooms, the couple retreated back to the master bedroom.
Being wary of the audience a wall away, America quietly hissed, "What the hell, Russia!?"
"I'm sorry!" Russia was quick to defend, "I thought it'd cheer you up."
"I don't need cheering up!" America rasped, "I'm not sad, I'm sick!" Russia shut his mouth, with his face painted in disbelief. The Russian clearly did not agree that America wasn't sad. "I really am not!"
Russia cleared his throat, "Well... something is clearly going on."
"Perhaps it's the mysterious phone calls that have to remain a secret?" America mocked. "I mean, seriously? I thought we trusted each other?"
"If we trust each other, I need you to trust me as well." Russia grabbed America's shoulders, not allowing for him to break eye contact, "Trust applies both ways, Amerika." The American's eyebrow twitched, irritated, then he closed both his eyes and took a deep breath.
"We won't get anywhere with this."
Russia's arms dropped from his hold on America, "Clearly."
"Can you try to explain it to me?" America questioned, "Just to try to help me understand where you're coming from?"
"Okay. I have been receiving phone calls from someone who I do not like, and so I don't want to pick up." Russia announced with deliberation, "That's all there is to it."
Well, him explaining it like that makes America look stupid. His face heated up in embarrassment.
"Sure, but then, why did they call so many times? And you did pick up a few times as well, not to mention, you talked to them for a while so you couldn't have just been telling them off." America interrogated. "Also, how did you know it was that person? When I picked up for you the first time it's caller ID displayed, 'unknown number' not a contact name. Besides, if you really don't want them talking to you, just block them?"
Russia's eyes widened, he's stupid for thinking he'd be able to lie to America. America somehow managed to find every single discrepancy in his defense and expected an answer to all of them.
Luckily, Russia was number 2 at the academy for a reason. If there was anyone who could keep up with America, it was him.
"I told you, they're annoying I don't have any control over how many times they call me," America's mouth opened to retort but Russia hand covered it before a sound could escape, "Let me finish, alright? I thought I would hear them out due to the abundance of calls but each time I pick up they would just dance around the answer with stories." Now that part was pretty true. "Due to the frequency of their calls, I knew it was them even without a caller id. And... it's a person from my past, that's why I do not feel comfortable blocking them." In reality, he's terrified that blocking the number might push him over the edge and lead him to try and find the couple. "Do my answers satisfy you?" With that, he released America's mouth.
America bit his lip and looked off to the side.
These were all... pretty reasonable justifications.
America felt really stupid now, his face was sheeted in a hue of red.
"Sorry..." He muttered, he's been wordlessly dragging Russia's name through the mud in his mind and to his family when in reality...
It was all just that simple.
