Carol and Tyler walked into the Lockwood mansion, seeing two men waiting for them in the foyer.
"Who the hell are you two?" Tyler asked.
"Tyler, it's okay," Carol told him. Tyler looked at her. "They're here for your protection."
"More deputies?" Tyler questioned.
Klaus walked in, followed by another man. "Not exactly."
"They're hybrids," Tyler realized.
"I was halfway to Chicago when I heard you were attacked," Klaus said. "I had hoped to leave Mystic Falls for good, but duty calls."
"It's nice to know you care," Tyler said, sarcastically.
"I don't," Klaus told him, walking closer. "I should've killed you for the little stunt you and your friends pulled. Stopping my heart, leaving me in a coffin to rot."
"Yeah, well, you used my body as an escape hatch, then kissed my girlfriend," Tyler told him. "So, maybe we're even."
"Not even close," Klaus replied. "But you hybrids are a dying breed. I can't make more of you, and I won't have anyone taking liberties with the ones I have left. Consider them your new bodyguards."
Klaus turned around and walked away, leaving.

Stefan and Elena sat down in their desk, waiting for class to begin.
Elena stared at the front, feeling sorrow consume her.
Stefan followed her gaze, realizing. "This is the first time we've been back in Alaric's classroom."
"First period and I'm ready to bawl my eyes out," Elena said.
Rebekah walked in. "Morning, everyone."
"Morning, Bekah," a girl greeted her.
Elena rolled her eyes. "Just like that, I'm no longer feeling sentimental."
Rebekah was handing out flyers. "So, my sister Kara is letting me throw a little anti-curfew party at her new house. Starts in the fifth period, goes til whenever. Spread the word." She looked at Elena. "You're welcome to join, Elena, if you'd like to bury the hatchet."
"It's a pretty enormous hatchet," Elena told her.
"Well, I'm feeling generous of spirit," Rebekah replied.
Elena looked at the flyer. "New house, huh? Did your brother finally kick you both out?"
"He didn't kick us out," Rebekah stated. "We left."
"So, you and Kara left the only person on Earth that actually likes you?" Elena asked.
Rebekah looked down for a moment before glancing at Stefan. "Well, your boyfriend liked me once. Actually, a lot more than once."
Elena looked furious.
"Why are you and Kara still in town, Rebekah?" Stefan asked. "Don't you have anywhere else to go?"
"Well, history's my favorite class," Rebekah answered. "Actually, where is Mr. Saltzman . . .? Oh, that's right. I killed him."
Elena had been tapping her pencil against her desk before angrily throwing it towards Rebekah. Rebekah caught it to stop it from impaling her face and threw it back, stabbing Elena in the shoulder. Elena grabbed her shoulder, glaring at Rebekah. Rebekah smiled. Elena pulled the pencil out of her shoulder and put it down on her desk, standing.
