"Contestants number four, please step forward."
Luke approached the middle of the arena, smirking at his contestant. Fire was the strongest element. It wasn't up for negotiation; everyone knew it. The past three kings had all been fire, so everyone knew that if they did go up against fire, they would have to pull their best moves.
Luke's flames circled around his body as the fire completely covered him.
Melanie touched the ground, grabbing the vines from beneath. She was going to use them as arrows, but I knew that wouldn't work because I had done it once.
"Come on, Mia, you can do better than that."
"Your literally fire. How is my nature supposed to compete against that?"
Luke chuckled. "It's not about how strong your element is but how you use it."
Melanie's vines got absorbed as soon as they touched the flames as I expected them to.
"Is that all?" Luke smiled as his flames got larger. "Let me show you what I can do."
His flames covered the entire arena, making it so there was no way out. If he wanted an excellent ranking, he had to kill her. The stronger your mentality was, the higher on the board you would be.
Luke's flames quickly spread on the ground, racing towards her. Melanie promptly tried to pull a wall in front to block it, but what could vines do to protect you from that?
His flames burst right through, aiming straight at her; they spread on Melanie like a wildfire. Her whole body lit on fire, completely burning her from the inside.
She fell to the floor, gasping for air. "P-please..-"
Mia looked at the leaderboard as Melanie took her last breath. He immediately went to first place out of the four that already had competed.
There were going to be plenty more, so it was possible for Luke to go down on the board, but seeing him in first made Mia want to try harder. She had to if she wanted to win this.
He immediately passed, placing him down with the other contestants who had already won. When he walked off the arena, he winked at Mia.
She knew he was just teasing.
But as the competition went on, everyone who passed was either air or fire. They were the stronger of the two, making it nearly impossible to touch them.
There were a few with water, but not as much as the others.
"Contestant number thirty-four, please come forward."
*whispering*
"Did you see what happened with nature with #4? It's one of the most useless elements, especially for a Queen."
Mia ignored their remarks as she proudly approached the arena.
"You might as well quit now-"
Mia raised her vines all around, quickly launching them straight at Stephanie.
She slid to the side, physically upset by my sudden attack.
"Is that even fair?! We hadn't even started?!"
"If you were paying attention in the beginning, you'd know that there aren't any rules. So once your feet touch the floor of this arena, you'd know that it's all fair game."
Stephanie glared as she quickly pulled water from the earth's surface around her, trying to make a shield to protect her from my attacks.
I would've gone for more of an attacking move, but seeing as she was taking defense, that was probably going to be her strategy,
