               Three years ago..

*laughing*

They had entered Mia's house to find her grandfather making food for them both.

"At this point, I think I should live here." Luke grinned taking a look at both Mia and her grandfather.

Mia's grandfather laughed. "Uh huh, and where would you be sleeping?-"

"I mean, I could sleep on the couch, but me and Mia could-

"Not happening. Now here, take this food and get home safe."

"Okay, okay, it was just a recommendation."

Mia giggled as she led him to the front door, closing it behind her.

"I don't think your grandfather approves of us dating."

"He thinks you'll break my heart, and I don't necessarily disagree with him."

Luke chuckled, leaning closer to her. "I'd be a fool to hurt you. We can make this work.. we've been friends forever, a relationship shouldn't be too hard, right?"

Mia just glanced at him, not leaving his gaze. "Right."

        Back to the present..

Mia woke up to find herself back in the hospital bed.

There was an IV in her arm and a wet rag on her forehead.

Her body was burning up, and her vision was foggy.

"Ugh." And I had a massive headache.

Because of me using the earth power it definitely took a really bad toll on my body. I knew I wasn't ready.

The next day, Mia was discharged from the hospital and was able to resume her training. She had to take it easy, but at least she didn't have to be stuck in such a boring place with nothing to do.

"So you can use the element a good amount." It was the girl that had saved me. She approached, walking beside Mia.

"It depends on what I'm using it for. But yes, I can. It doesn't mean that I should use it recklessly."

"Why not?"

Mia gave an annoyed glance. "Why are you even talking to me? I'm not looking for a friend-"

"Neither am I. But my name is Nat, and if it came down to it, I hope you used your full straight to kill me instead of me feeling sorry for you."

"Did you just come here to threaten me?"

Nat giggled. "No. But rumor from your so-called friend Luke has been spreading like wildfire that you are weak."

"What?" Mia looked at Nat, confused about what she was talking about. Luke was never a fan of gossip; he wouldn't just be spreading something like that around.

"Your friend is Luke right?"

"Yeah.."

"Then yeah, he's the one who spread the word that you shouldn't even be here. That your power was useless and that you'd die climbing up the ranks for no reason. He even brought up that he had to save you, that he shouldn't have. I wouldn't really consider that a friend, but I mean if that's what you-"

"Shut up. I.. I need to find Luke I-"

"Oh. Yeah, he's camping the edges with the others, finding low ranks to kill. I was going to go off on your behalf, but I thought it would be more interesting if you did it."

Mia shook her head as she angrily walked over to the barrier.

"Luke!"

"Luke!"

"Luke damn it get out here! I know you're here!"

Luke walked forward, giving a sour expression.

"Woah. So it's fucking true. By your reaction and you being here, it's true."

"What do you want me to say, Mia?"

"Why? Why would you say that? Why couldn't you say it to my face? Fuck you for letting me find out from someone else!"

"What? Was I wrong?! I had to fucking save you, Mia, again because you shouldn't be here! You don't know how to kill when it needs to be done! You almost got yourself killed again because you can't! And you used the earth element knowing damn well it will kill you!"

"Then stop saving me!" Mia shouted. "If I die then I die! You say these things purposely, trying to hurt me. And you got your wish. You hurt me."

Mia wrapped her arms tightly together, walking away from him. Her eyes felt heavy, but she didn't dare to let herself cry. Not a single tear. He didn't deserve them.

Three years ago...

"Mia. Mia, hang on-

"No! I told you you would hurt me! And what did you say?! You wouldn't!! You lied! You lied.."

"I know.. I.. I'm sorry, Mia."

"What am I supposed to do with that? We've been dating for two days!! Two days, Luke! Damn it..." Mia tightly closed her eyes, thinking about what to say or do.

"If we end it.. do you think our friendship would still be the same?" Mia nervously asked.

"I... I don't know. Do you want to end it?"

"Yes. Can we just pretend this never happened? That we never tried? I can't lose you because of a stupid relationship that we shouldn't have tried in the first place."

Luke nodded. "Okay."

    Present Day...

Mia followed back to her room and just laid there looking up at the ceiling the entire night.
She couldn't stop thinking about what Luke said, and she couldn't help but think that maybe he was right.

The following day, Mia approached Nat.

"You were right; why am I here if I'm not going to use everything I have to win this? I'm ready now."

Nat smiled. "Okay. I will push you to your limits, do you understand?"

Mia nodded.

"Good. Then we start now."
