Finally, after long last I got all the supplies I need for Hogwarts. It seemed like around four. I mean come on how much stuff do we need? My favourite part was getting this pitch black owl with bright blue eyes who I named Midnight. After we finished looking through all the shops for fun, Clara started to leave. I followed her as she walked back out through the brick wall thingy and when back to the pub. I wondered how we were gonna get to Hogwarts. I mean if this place was so well hidden then Hogwarts must be as well.
"Hey Clara!" I call to her once we are out of the pub and back on the streets, trying to get back to the orphanage.
"Yes?" She says wondering what I could possibly want now.
"Well, I was just wondering if you knew how to find Hogwarts. I mean wouldn't it be hidden just like Triangle Alley?" I ask.
"First of all, it's Diagon Alley. Second of all, remember that I also went to Hogwarts so I know where to go. Also, thirdly, we won't be going to Hogwarts directly, we will be going to the Hogwarts Express which is the part that's hardest. I hope you like running into walls." When Clara says that I panic a bit. I mean, who wouldn't after hearing that they might be flattened against the wall because you didn't run into the right one. Ah well, I guess sometimes you have to take risks in order for life to be interesting.
As we continue walking, the orphanage comes into view. The big building that has over 30 kids. It doesn't sound like a lot but after living here my whole life, I learned just how busy it can get when Rosie makes a fresh batch of chocolate chip cookies. Rosie is the chef here. Anyone can cook the meals it's just that everyone likes Rosie's cooking the best out of everyone's. I'm the second best cook. Everyone likes my cooking just not as much as Rosie's.
"And we're back." Clara says to me. "Ok Ana, your going to have to try to avoid everyone else while you go upstairs with all your stuff. We can't risk being exposed to muggles."
"What are muggles?" I ask her while thinking of how funny the word sounds to me.
"Muggles are non-magical beings. They don't know of our existence and we try to keep it that way. Another thing to tell you about. There are four different types of wizards. The purebloods, the half bloods, the muggle born and the squibs. It's important to remember these terms. The purebloods are those who come from a long line of wizards with no muggles interpreted into the family tree. The half bloods are those with a parent who is a wizard and the other who is related to or is a muggle. The muggle borns are those who have muggle parents. They are no different then the purebloods or half bloods but not everyone thinks that, remember this. The squibs who are people who are born with wizard and witch parents but are full muggles. No magic in them whatsoever." Clara says. I wasn't expecting such a long speech but I'm so eager to learn about the wizarding world that I'm fine with the long explanation.
"What am I?" I ask her. I hope I'm not a squib. I don't want to be mean to them but I want to be able to learn lots of different magic spells because to me it seems so interesting.
"From what I'm guessing you're either a purebloods or a half blood. Your mother had a wand on her when she brought you here. I could see it hanging from the shirt she was wearing. Thats one of the reasons why I knew you had magic in your blood. It was quite obvious, I don't know why she put it in such an easy to find place."
"Oh ok." I say as if conveying the message that it doesn't really interest me but it does. Inside I was leaping for joy at the fact that I had magic in me.
"Hey wait!" I say to Clara as she starts to go inside the orphanage. She stops and turns to me.
"Yes?" She asks me.
"You know what, never mind." I had a theory about my dad but I didn't want to tell anyone because what if I was wrong and then I would seem like such a bad daughter.
I ran inside the orphanage to see that dinner was almost ready. I then realized that I hadn't eaten lunch. I guess me and Clara were so busy shopping that we didn't notice. I made sure no one saw me and lugged all my stuff up the stairs and into my room as quietly as I could, making sure no one saw me. When I closed the door and locked it, I put Midnight in the corner of my room.
She looked like she wanted to be free so I opened my window and then her cage she flew right out of the cage and then straight out the window.
"Come back when your done!" I say as loudly as I dare.
I walked back to my room to finish un-packing all my stuff and let me tell you there was a lot.
"Dinner!" I hear Rosie call from down stairs. She called it just as I finished setting up all my stuff. I had a pile of books. Some were on the school list but some I took for fun. There was a booked on advanced spells that I wanted to try but when I got it, Clara said I could only practice at Hogwarts. That kind of sucked but oh well.
I ran down the stairs after making sure everyone was already downstairs as I didn't want to get trampled by all the bodies that were heading to the food. When I got there, there was only one spot available. It was at the end of the table.
I gladly sat there because I don't like sitting around other people. The only people who are my friends in this place are Clara and Rosie. I got some food on my plate and ate quietly while everyone else talked.
I listen at these conversations, never talk. I hear everyone talking about how they can't wait for school. In my opinion, everything seems easy. Even the higher grade stuff. I've always been a fast learner and I never forget what I learn.
School is starting in two weeks and I can't wait to get to my school.
Dinner is finally over and I stay behind to help Rosie clean up. I take all the dirty dishes to the sink while she rinses them and puts them in the dishwasher. Once we finish clearing the table, I wipe it down. After cleaning up everything, I go upstairs to get ready for bed.
I put my pj's on, brush my teeth and head to my room. I walk to my bed and sit down thinking about my father in peace. And then I start wondering.
Did he care about my mom?
Did he know she had a baby?
Did he abandon my mom?
Is he dead?
At the last question I stopped. I really hope he's alive. I really hope my dad will come back and come to take me away from this orphanage. With that last thought, I fell asleep.
