Chapter 015

Wen Jin felt utterly embarrassed. Lying on the cleared bed, he played dead, regretting his attempt to grab a piece of meat from the jar. Getting stuck and being caught by Devitt was a humiliation he wished he could bury himself over.

Devitt, holding Wen Jin after pulling him up from the floor, nonchalantly remarked to someone at the door, "See? He's fine."

Though the person nodded, Wen Jin sensed the mocking tone in Devitt's words, as if saying, "Are you sure you've seen it clearly?" It was too unfair. Wen Jin had used his spiritual energy to break the glass jar, intending to detach his head discreetly. Now, he felt like he lost the entire world.

As Devitt observed the forlorn fox on the pillow, he found it amusing, not understanding how the little creature managed to get its head stuck while eating. He teased, "You're really strong."

Wen Jin pushed away Devitt's hand with all four paws, choked, and continued feigning disinterest, feeling thoroughly despondent.

"Next time, come to me in such situations. You can't do this. What if you step on glass?" Devitt tried to touch Wen Jin's face.

Wen Jin, disapproving, pushed Devitt's hand away with a soft paw, unwilling to admit any connection with the embarrassing incident.

Seeing the fox's dejected look, Devitt avoided sharp claws, pinched the soft pad, and casually asked, "Why are you so strong?"

Wen Jin retorted, "Awoo! What's it to you?" Annoyed, he wanted to pretend nothing happened, but Devitt's persistence irritated him.

Wen Jin glared at Devitt, then slumped back on the pillow, looking lifeless. Observing this, Devitt, feeling an itch to touch the little creature's face, was again thwarted by four paws. Despite the resistance being weak, Devitt, intrigued by the fox's defeated appearance, couldn't help but smile.

After playing with Wen Jin for a while, Devitt left for another room upon hearing a data terminal notification. Before leaving, he placed a small plate of jerky in front of Wen Jin to comfort the almost-dead fox. Devitt hadn't expected the fox to like jerky so much. Breaking the jar was forgivable, but the glass was too dangerous. In the future, he decided to find something less risky for snacks.

Wen Jin, watching Devitt leave without turning back, looked displeased at the mountain of jerky in front of him. This thing had caused him to lose face, and now it felt like a mockery to have it placed in front of him. Coldly staring at the pile, Wen Jin eventually pounced and took a big bite.

Having devoured almost two cans of jerky, Wen Jin, satisfied and full, nestled under the blanket and let out a big yawn. Suddenly remembering something, he glanced at Devitt on the other side. Despite leaving the door open again, Devitt's actions didn't interfere with Wen Jin's plans. Wen Jin approached the bed, dragged a bag of water-type spirit stones to the center, and contentedly touched them. Feeling the abundant and warm spiritual energy inside, these things were his most familiar presence in this world. With narrowed eyes, Wen Jin began absorbing the energy.

A familiar spiritual energy slowly surged towards the dantian. It had been so long since Wen Jin felt this, and he couldn't help but make contented sounds, silently shouting in his heart for more and more. Sensing the energy gently enveloping the demon core and flowing through his limbs, Wen Jin felt as if his entire body had stretched out. Though not yet enough, the abundant spiritual energy made him thoroughly enjoy the experience, and soon, Wen Jin was completely immersed, forgetting his initial plan to absorb only two or three pieces.

Devitt, who had intended to deal with paperwork after leaving the room, found it difficult to shake off the scene in his mind. Eventually, he opened the light net and entered a search query: "How strong can a contract beast be?" Numerous results flooded in, and Devitt opened the top one, finding detailed information about contract beasts.
