Chapter 009

After lunch, Wen Jin took a nap-or rather, Devitt thought he did. In reality, Wen Jin didn't require much sleep. During his childhood, he rarely slept, spending his days and nights playing. It was only after his master ascended that his frequency of sleeping increased, although not at the moment.

Sleeping was a form of relaxation, but Wen Jin had no time for relaxation. Most of the time, he patiently worked on repairing his demonic core. The spiritual energy in this world was sparse, and even in this room, which was comparatively less thin than outside, the environment was harsh. Wen Jin had to exhibit even more patience to absorb spiritual energy.

After a full four hours in the afternoon, suddenly, Wen Jin's tail, hidden behind the quilt, moved, and he snapped out of his meditation.

He sensed a presence moving toward him, and it was approaching rather quickly with a powerful momentum. Wen Jin couldn't help but open his eyes. Though he knew there were heavily guarded soldiers outside the room, this aura was too unfamiliar, something he hadn't detected since his arrival, and it felt hostile.

Wen Jin wasn't afraid, but he wanted to alert Devitt. As he turned to charge at Devitt, who was still reviewing documents, their eyes met.

Wen Jin was instantly stunned.

Since coming to this world, he had mostly kept a low profile, avoiding doing anything extraordinary. The current person treated him well, but in his millennia of cultivating among humans, he had encountered many complicated minds. Humans were the most complex in thought. Devitt was treating him well for now, but if he discovered Wen Jin's abilities, would he harbor thoughts of tearing him apart and swallowing him? It was uncertain.

Wen Jin's strategy was to stay by this person's side for now. With the contract in hand, this person wouldn't harm him for the time being. Using this person's position as a commander, it might be easier for him to find spiritual energy in the future. Once his demonic core recovered, the contract could be discussed. Until then, he didn't want to reveal himself.

So, he had been pretending not to fully understand Devitt's actions. Now being stared at directly, Wen Jin couldn't help but recall. Did he not react noticeably when he sensed an incoming presence? He just moved his tail a bit. It shouldn't have been enough to be noticed. Why was this person looking at him like that?

After some thought, Wen Jin realized that even though this world couldn't transmit messages through spiritual consciousness, there might be some undisclosed methods. An alarm went off in his mind. Was this person deliberately testing him?

Perhaps the subordinates had already informed him of the visitor's arrival. Humans were known for their cunning, deceit, and pettiness!

Feeling like he had walked into a trap again, Wen Jin lost interest in howling. Instead, he retreated to the corner of the bed, facing away from Devitt with a displeased look.

Devitt's gaze revealed a hint of meaning. Without saying anything, he stood up and opened the door.

Wen Jin, still in the bed, observed his actions and made a couple of discontented hums. Look, someone must have informed him! He was worrying for nothing!

While thinking like this, Wen Jin couldn't help but steal a glance toward the door. His intuition told him the newcomer wasn't ordinary. This morning, when the doctor came, Devitt wasn't so proactive. When Wen Jin saw the refined-looking woman walking in, dressed modestly, and with a cold and distant expression, he immediately understood.

She should be Devitt's relative, a direct one-probably his mother? Watching Devitt respectfully pull out a chair for the lady, Wen Jin couldn't help but open his eyes. His anger had dissipated, and he wanted to see the drama unfold.
