...but I broke that promise within a month."
"Why?"
"I met a boy. He was just ten years old and he
showed me the right path. His name was Ajay.He
wanted to be an Inspector. He and I were sitting on
the same bench in a garden. I asked why he was
not playing but stared at the kids who were playing.
He told me that he wanted to play chess. He had a
set of chess in his bag. We played and I lost every
match. He told me about how our mind works. He
said that we have a plan in our minds. Which is
good, but because of that, we don't see other good
moves we could play. The same is for solving any
mystery, he said. As, if I think of a suspect, I would
ignore the truth which is in front of me and make the mistake. He told me a lot of things like that and it
appealed to me. I always tried to figure out what
could be the proof and then I disposed of it. The
same thing I had to do and figure out the proofs
after which I had to make a theory and work on it.
His teaching also helped me a lot. After that, I was
DETECTIVE! I am Detective."
"Then also you could have stayed with that waiter,
Surya being a Detective in this city. I always wanted
to leave this place. But Surya wanted to be here
only. He had promised his late mother to do so. She
was killed by someone and the killer was never
found. And also, I could tell him that I am a
Detective. As he would have said, Detectives help
police and he hates them. He hates them because
his father was one of them and he had very bad
relations with him."
"I also want to escape this damn city! I am not
meant to be here! I have to leave it at any cost. But
my husband wants me to work in this organization
and sell drugs! I love him. And I also want him to
love me. So, I never say no to whatever he wants.
But I don't know why he doesn't want me to be with
him. I can do anything for his sake."
"Then also he doesn't love you?"
Manju's silence answered.
"You should leave this organization. And about your
husband, you should leave him too."
"But where would I go then? And why would I leave
a man who I love more than myself? I need just him"
"A new dawn of your life, that's what you need."
"But, my husband?"
"What if I say that he has another woman too? He
can live with her happily and peacefully."
Manju swallowed.
"You are lying. I trust him."
"I kept an eye on him one night and he went to an
interesting place."
He took a file from the back seat and took out a
photo of Tinku with a curly-headed woman.
Manju sobbed and closed her eyes and took a long
breath. She struggled to not let her tears escape.
Detective Kashyap started the car suddenly and
turned it towards the road they came from.
"There is no one to be trusted! People always break
each other's trust."
"Where are we going?"
"Police Station."
