Adaline's POV

"They should've been back by now," Maggie says looking out the window. Patrica had made us all dinner and most of us were in the dining room. She had made me and Shane some earlier so we just sat with them all.

"Yeah. They just got holed up somewhere. We'll... we'll head out first thing in the morning." Shane tries to reassure her.

"Thank you." She nods and finally sits down at the table.

"You're welcome. Carl, I want you to keep your head up, okay? Your old man, he's the toughest son of a..." Shane gets interrupted by Patrica scolding him.

"No cussing in the house."

"Sorry." He looks down, making me laugh.

"Lori, dinner," Patrica calls out towards one of the rooms.

"She's not in there," Maggie tells her.

"Where is she?" I ask, looking at Maggie who shrugs.

"Carl, when was the last time you saw your mom?" Shane asks the little boy.

"This afternoon."

"She was worried about Rick, and asked me to look in on Carl," Andrea tells us. Why didn't she say something earlier, that was hours ago. It's pitch black now. You would think that when you haven't seen someone for hours and they ask you to look after their beloved child you would be worried if they were gone.

"She went after them?" Shane asks for clarification.

"She didn't say that." Andreas defends herself against her own stupid actions.

"Nobody panic. Gotta be around here somewhere." Shane said, looking around the dining room. We all get up and start looking around the property, inside and outside. I helped look inside, checking the attic, which I didn't know they even had, and the basement and random rooms.

"She's not at the barn," Shane calls out as we all meet back up outside the house.

"I checked the yards," Andrea said.

"Well, where is she?" I asked them worried about my friend.

"She asked Daryl to go into town," Carol tells us. I look at Shane worried about her. Lori has about as much experience with the new world as I do. Also, she's pregnant. I don't know if Shane knows but I do and I want to meet my unborn niece or nephew.

"Must've gone by herself." Shane connects to the dots.

"Mom." Suddenly Carl speaks from beside me, I thought he was inside with Alastair.

"Hey. Carl. Did you know about this?" Shane bends down and looks Carl in the eye as he talks.

"No." Carl shakes his head upset. I wrap my arms around him pulling him into me trying to comfort the boy. Both of his parents were missing and in possible danger.

"Look, just... Did she take a gun?" Shane stands up looking at Dale.

"I don't know. I wouldn't let her go out there alone." Dale says, shaking his head.

"I'm going out. I'll bring her back." Shane says, looking at me and Carl. We nod and Shane walks off to one of the cars with his gun. I lead Carl back inside the house, deciding to distract him. I go to his old room and find the lone pack of cards on the nightstand. I grab it and head back downstairs.

"Hey buddy, do you still remember that poker game I taught you?" I ask him to sit at the living room table with him. He looks up at me nodding, causing his hair to flop around. His hat was lying on the couch behind him. I bring out the cards and shuffle them before dealing and starting the first game.
