*There is so much happening in this chapter, I just could not bring myself to separate this at any point. So, here you have almost 5000 words of Katherine and Kalina being a couple without being a couple.
—————————————————————————KALINA'S POV:
I handed Arin a piece of the cake I had just made. Yeah, cake. That's what it took to make my brother shut up about seeing me making out with the woman I had introduced to him as my English literature professor.I was sure he would shut up about it. He had promised. He never broke his promises, one of the few reasons why I liked him.
At 9 pm, finally lying in bed, I stopped worrying completely. Anthony had dropped by a while ago to tell me that he was having dinner with Ben that night. It took me exactly 5 minutes to realise that that was still the same guy he had talked about for the past two and a half months.
To say I was impressed would have been an understatement. I told him so. He hit my forearm.
Well, he had wanted to know which tie would fit better with the suit he was going to wear. I figured they must have planed on going to an expensive restaurant.
I did not really know Ben at all. He always seemed to vanish whenever I walked up to the two of them. I did not know about his financial situation.
Which had immediately made me worry about him using Anthony like all those other blokes.
Anthony had told me to calm down. I had wanted to. I really had but his countless reassurances, that that thing between them was something serious, only quieted my doubts to a certain extent.
So, after he had driven off, finally decided on a tie, I had laid down on my bed and had turned off the lights, even though, I had not intended to sleep.
I still did not. I wanted Katherine there with me I had realised and now I kept thinking of what it would feel like to have her front pressed against my back while watching TV from my bed. I kept thinking of her lips on mine and how I wanted that feeling to return.
I kept thinking of all the things that made my heart race and it impossible for me to fall asleep.
When hours had ticked by without sleep coming to me, I stood up, opened my window and sat by it to watch the snow fall in the streetlights' glow.
My phone rung out. When I reached for it in the dark, I saw an unknown number light up my screen.
I hesitated but when I saw the location I had a feeling that the person calling was Katherine. So I picked up the call.
The line cracked but I heard the sound of her voice sounding out loud and clear.
"Kalina?", it sounded like she had been asleep.
"Yes?", it was quiet for a little while until she took a deep breath.
"I just wanted you to know that I can't stop thinking of you", she whispered into her phone.
"And I can't seem to fall asleep. I can't. Every time I turn around I am rattled by another flashback of your hot mouth on mine and I just- I don't know, maybe you- actually, I don't know why I called. I think I wanted to hear your voice", she kept talking really quietly and it made her voice a little raspy.
"I'm happy you did. I can't sleep either. I keep wishing for you to be next to me. I want to hug you", I confessed and she sighed.
"Did you want to- I don't know, like come to my place tomorrow? For dinner I mean. I'd cook. I told you I'd tell you about dinner, you know", she sounded so very sleepy, I wanted to take her pretty face in my hands and kiss her until all the thoughts that kept her up had fled her.
