KALINA'S POV:
Four hours had passed without a word from mum. This was getting ridiculous. That must have been bordering on 24 hours of no contact by then."Maybe she's dead, you know", I looked at Arin and rolled my eyes.
"She's not dead, Arin. She's out, sneaking around. I just know it", I looked at the message, I had searched for, from about four months ago.
"She wouldn't cheat on dad, Kali", he turned away from me to put his finished plate into the sink.
"And where's dad, Arin? Where is he? Have you heard a single thing from him except that cheap ass birthday card he sent? He's not talking to mum more often than he is talking to us!", I did not want to shout at my brother over this but I was hurt by the fact that our dad barely put in any effort to see us and by the fact that he would not be around for Christmas and by the fact that Arin so obviously missed the father figure in his life.
Arin looked down at the floor and chewed on his lip. I immediately felt awfully guilty for scratching at that wound.
"I'm sorry. It doesn't matter. Mum will probably walk through that door any minute now with a clarifying explanation", I gave him a weak smile but he just pushed his reading glasses up his nose and began descending the stairs with heavy shoulders.
She most definitely would not walk through those doors anytime soon. I had this disgusting feeling and I seriously needed to find out what was going on.
So, I called Anthony and told him to pick me up and that we were going for a drive. I would have gone by my own and in my own car but that car would not survive the hour long trip to central London we were about to go on.
The bar she had asked 'me' to meet up at back in July was my only lead and I was going to take it on that boring Saturday afternoon with nothing else to do. And Arin would be fine, he had eaten.
"Okay cool, so, we're going to drive into the city and try to find your mother-turned-cheater with the help of a message you got back in July. This seems like a well thought through plan", he nodded mockingly.
"Why are you looking at me like that? If we don't find her, we'll go to the cinema or something. Seriously though, Anthony, I need to figure this out", I gave him a look that said 'do not try to argue with me on this' and he held his hands up in defense before gripping the steering wheel again.
"Alright, Kali, consider me intrigued. We'll go catch your mum cheating on your forlorn dad. Sounds lovely", he chuckled.
I shook my head but had to smile.
An hour later we got to the bar.
"Now, I don't know why we didn't think of this earlier but what good bar opens before 7pm? None", we were stood in front of a closed off building and I groaned.
"Well, let's get to the cinemas, Kali", I shrugged off the hand he had laid around my shoulders.
"No, I don't want to give up", he snorted.
"Wow, you're passionate about this. But I just meant, we could go to the cinema to pass the time and come back a bit later", he raised his shoulders suggestively.
"Oh, yeah, yeah we can do that", and so, we walked a good half an hour and got ourselves tickets for some film he had been dying to watch. It was nice. But I could not focus on anything other than my mum and her whereabouts during it.
At some point, I received a message and hid my phone in my jacket as I checked it. It was a picture of Katherine in a tight fitted dress that showed off her legs beautifully and pinched her waist in all the right places. I could feel myself drooling at the sight and clenched my thighs in an attempt to drown out the raging storm growing in my lower stomach. There was an actual message attached.
