The next morning, David and Freddie were surprised to find it was Elton who was missing that day. David was less so, but he was still a little more confused with every hour that went by.
Eventually, at about three in the afternoon, Elton emerged from upstairs. To say he was disheveled was an understatement.
"Morning loves." He said, rubbing his eyes which looked red and puffy.
"It's not exactly morning anymore, darling." Freddie said, stifling a laugh. "It's three in the afternoon."
"Oh god, is it?" Elton asked. "For fuck sake."
"It's alright love, it happens to the best of us." David assured him. "You're here and awake now and that's all that matters."
"Thank you, David." Elton said, sitting on the sofa next to him. "How did you both sleep?"
"Beautifully." Freddie smiled.
"I slept well, thank you." David said. "How about you?"
"Like shit to be perfectly honest." Elton admitted. "I barely slept a wink. I bet it shows too, I must have the most horrendous eye bags."
"Not really." David said. "But I can tell you aren't thriving on much."
"I'll make you a coffee if you like, darling." Freddie suggested. "Put a little pep in your step."
Elton smiled at that. "Yes please, darling."
So Freddie rushed off to make the coffee. Elton rested his head on David's shoulder, completely exhausted from the lack of sleep.
"Oh love, you are tired aren't you?" David asked. "I'll tell you what, once Fred's got that coffee for you, I'll go and get you some blankets from upstairs and you can just vegetate all afternoon. As far as I know, we have absolutely no plans whatsoever."
"That sounds lovely." Elton said before panicking a little. "In fact, I'll go get them from my room now. Don't worry about it."
He went to get up, when David grabbed his arm. "I'll get them from the airing cupboard, love."
Elton breathed a sigh of relief he didn't mean for David to see. "Alright then."
"How's the coffee coming on, Freddie?" David shouted to the kitchen.
"It's nearly finished!" Freddie replied.
Just then, the phone rang. David went to get up, but Freddie intercepted it at the last moment.
"I'll get it, love." He said. "You finish Elton's coffee - it only needs stirring."
David rolled his eyes and went to do it, shooting Elton an apologetic look.
"Hello?" Freddie answered.
"Thank god." A voice breathed on the other end. "Freddie my love, it's me."
"Terry." Freddie said coldly. "What do you want?"
"I need to speak to you." He said. "Please, I'm sorry."
"But love, you hurt me." Freddie said. "I spent all of yesterday crying over you. Half of the time to Elton, who I'll warn you isn't your biggest fan at the moment."
"Please love, let's talk." Terry said. "Away from Elton and David, so we can talk things through properly. I've already booked a table for two at a lovely restaurant for us."
