(Harry's POV)

"No– no... NO!"

"Please– no..." I cry out weakly, pressing two trembling fingers to the side of Y/N's scarred, bloodied neck. A faint pulse flutters beneath my touch, so slow and quiet that it's nearly indistinguishable. "Y/N–"

The stone floor beneath us explodes as a spell hits it, leaving a crater. I scramble quickly away from the spot, Y/N's unconscious body in my arms. From out of nowhere, a thick arm seizes me by the neck and pulls me back.

"Give it to me," growls a voice in my ear. "Give me the prophecy–"

The man's grip tightens around my windpipe, cutting off my air as I try to desperately cling onto Y/N's limp body. Through watering eyes, I can see Sirius duelling with a Death Eater some ten feet away. Kingsley is fighting two at once; Tonks, still halfway up the dais, is firing spells down at Bellatrix– nobody seems to realise the situation I'm trapped in– Y/N slipping away, dying in my arms–

"AARGH!"

Neville has come lunging out of nowhere: unable to articulate a spell, he jabs his wand hard into the eyehole of the Death Eater's mask. The man relinquishes at once with a howl of pain. I whirl around to face him and gasp, "STUPEFY!"

The Death Eater keels over backward and his mask slips off. It's Macniar, Buckbeak's would-be killer, one of his eyes now swollen and bloodshot.

"Thanks!" I shout quickly to Neville, passing by Sirius and his Death Eater.

Hurrying across the room to the door that leads back to the prophecy room, I slip inside to find Ginny slumped against the wall in pain from her ankle while Luna tries to keep Ron from wandering off.

"Y/N!" Luna exclaims, hurrying forward to help me with Y/N's body.

"If– when she wakes up," I say, brushing stray strands of hair away from her face. "Don't let her go back in and fight, okay? I don't care what she says."

Both girls nod quickly.

I take one last glance back at Y/N's peaceful body before turning away and stepping back into the fighting.

Malfoy has just smashed into the dais on which Sirius and Bellatrix Lestrange are now duelling. Malfoy aims his wand in my direction, but before he can draw a breath to strike, Remus has just jumped between us.

"Harry, round up the others and GO!"

"No!" I shout back. "I'm going to help Sirius!"

Dodging spells and curses soaring across the room, I make it to the stone dais where Sirius is now battling Bellatrix in front of the mysterious archway.

"Harry– what are you doing here?" he shouts frantically, deflecting Bellatrix's spell. "Take the others and get out of here!"

"What–? No! I'm staying with you!" I say pleadingly.

Sirius lets out a heavy, tired sigh as he pulls me behind a large stone boulder. The weariness in his eyes is unmistakable– he's exhausted, drained from fighting. But even now, through the exhaustion, he's still fighting so fiercely for me– for all of us.
