better in the dark

part 1 (james pov)

the first time i saw him was 3 months ago. the marauders we're going to play truth or dare, and serious brought regulus. the way he looked at me sent shivers down my body. he was so pretty. prettier than serious, if i dare say. the way his eyes shimmered in the sunlight, or the was his voice was a whisper when he talked, or the way his dark, curly hair fell just in front of his eyes, made me speechless. regulus said hi to me first. I don't know why, but I said hi back in a whisper.

i never stoped thinking about that day.

i would go to sleep thinking about him. i got distracted in class because i was thinking about him.

god, would i give the world for him to talk to i again just for an hour.

when ever i would walk past him in the hallway, he would always be in a rush, so i couldn't even say a simple hi to him.

one day, though, he wasn't in a rush and i said hi. he didn't say hi back, which made me think he didn't hear me. i caught up with him and said hi again. regulus just rolled his eyes and walked faster. i walked faster. i tried to start a conversation with him, "what's you next class?" regulus rolled his eyes and said, "defense against the dark arts". "I have herbology" i said. "good to know" regulus said sarcastically.

the next day i saw him again. this time was different, though.

regulus said hi first.

that NEVER happens.

the way he said it made me blush. hopefully he didn't notice. he said it so gently and quiet, if he wasn't right behind me, i wouldn't have heard him.

I say hi back, and I see a small smile on his face. it was the cutest thing ever!

i ask if i could walk with him to class. "why?" he asked.

"why not?"

he rolled his eyes and walked off

god, he is soooo cute

...

i've passed him in the halls a couple times since then, and every time it ends with him walking away, rolling his eyes. most of the time because i made a stupid joke.

"hey" i said.

"what do you want now?"

he turned around and i stood there looking at him. god he is BEAUTIFUL today. his hair was extra curly and falling in front of his eyes, which are extra gray and pretty, his lips look so kissable, they're parted slightly with white teeth showing through the tiny crack, his eyebrows are raised a little, waiting for an answer.

"well" he says.

i shake out of my daze and say "... i forgot" because i did.

he rolls his eyes and walks off as usual. i watch him walk off.

"oh, hey!" a voice from behind me says

i turn around to see lily, the girl i've had a crush on since first year, well used to.

"hey" i say back remembering i didn't say anything

"can i walk with you" she said

i can't just say no cause that would be mean "oh yeah, sure"

"so i realized that you stopped asking me to go out with you"

oh no, she noticed.

"oh yeah, sorry"

"so, have you moved on from me?"

"yeah" i laugh "i guess so"

"not much of a chatterbox today i see"

"sorry i just have a lot of stuff on my mind" why would i say that

"like homework" she says sarcastically

i laugh "no"

"not that surprising" she says "so i saw you talking to regulus earlier"

"oh yeah?"

"yeah" she pauses "i saw you staring at him."

shit shit shit shit

"do you like him? that is a genuine question. i don't care if you do i just wanna know."

what do i say to her. do i lie and say 'no that would be ridiculous' or do i tell the truth and say 'yeah i've liked him for 4 months' and if i do what i she doesn't like me anymore. what if she tells him? "yeah" i whisper without realizing. oh no i did not just do that. shit!

she smiles slightly and says "ok, thanks for telling me"

"do you have any crushes"i say to stop talking about me

she blushes slightly "mary"

i gasp dramatically "mary?!"

"shhhhhhhhh!!"

"sorry" i say "but she told me that she likes you!"

"really, your mot just saying that?"

"yes actually!" i say "why would i make that up. i don't make stuff up about crushes"

she smiles and blushes even more, now you can see it through he freckles

once we get to class we pause in the door way. regulus is sitting next to my seat. regulus. my crush is sitting next to MY seat. i look at lily, she's already looking at me. i look back at regulus and he is looking at me. he looks away and lily hits me an my arm like every friend does when something good happens. i walk to my seat and regulus doesn't look at me. "hey reggie" i say.

"don't call me that"

"why are you in herbology, shouldn't you be in dada?"

"my schedule got changed"

"oh, what class do you have dada now?"

"4th"

"oh, i have it 5th"

"i know"

"what" i said "how do you kn-"

"boys!" said the teacher, cutting me off.

i look at lily and she smiled and gave me two thumbs up.

this is going to be a good school year!
