Her mind was entirely elsewhere. Honesty, her mind and gaze were on Nora who was just ahead of her.

Something about that woman's walk was mesmerizing; the way her hips moved with her shoulders back and head held high. Piper had once heard the saying 'confidence is sexy' and now she was finding she wholeheartedly agreed.

Taking a breath with a shake of her head, she pulled her scarf from around her neck and shoved it into her pocket before unfastening the belt of her coat. The ideas she had allowed to float around in her head had made her a little flushed and hot... but who was she kidding? Nora was well beyond her league, far beyond anyone's really, and there were far more important things on that woman's mind than finding someone to make a bed warm with.

And that's when everything went to shit.

It had all happened too fast. Faster than either Nora or Piper could comprehend until it was too late. The sudden hail of gunfire from the wrecked USS Riptide had caught both women completely off guard. They'd crossed this bridge countless times with no incident until now so why would they think this time would be any different. But it was. There were only about seven Raiders to deal with but they had the advantage on the two women... one of them was even sporting some Power Armour, albeit a little bare.

*PING* *PING*

Whizzing bullets ricocheted off one of the many old rusted cars beside them as Nora drops her bag and dives to flatten herself against the cement. Piper, however, had the idea that she'd take cover on the opposite side of the vehicle but hadn't realized there was no other side. It was nothing but a sheer drop that led down to the Charles River and she'd stepped into it blindly.

The back end of her boot finds no solid cement beneath it and it sends her tumbling backwards over the side of the bridge. In her rush of adrenaline and panic, Piper let's go of her gun in a desperate attempt to grab hold of the crumbling siding but she's too far away. The only thing she can do is scream out Nora's name before plummeting into the water below, but her misstep had fallen on deaf ears as the sound of fire rang out over their heads.

Nora had kept low, crawling over to a chunk of cement to hide behind as she pulled Deliverer from her hip.

God, why did this have to happened today of all days. She and Piper were on a time crunch this morning and were in a rush to get back to Diamond City for Nat's birthday. Piper had never, never, missed one and Nora was not about to let their travelling get in the way of that; she even promised both Wright sisters that they'd be back in time to celebrate and even teach them how to make a cake. The two women left the Starlight Settlement at four in the morning so they'd have time to go check out the Super Duper Mart in Lexington. Nora was hellbent on making Natalie a cake but finding the ingredients was proving harder than she'd anticipated... which of course, she was up for the challenge so long as she could at least find their irradiated alternatives. And to her surprise, the Mart had nearly almost everything she needed aside from eggs. She's sure Takahashi would have a substitute that was used for the noodles, she just had to figure out how to ask.

Nora holds her breath as she leans over her cover and fires off a few rounds of her own. A few raiders split up, taking cover of their own which makes her grin. "Yeah, that's right! Run, you idiots!" She takes the brief opportunity to move closer to the edge while still staying ducked behind the cement barrier until she found a opening in the cement. With a quick peep around she sends some more bullets their way, hitting two of her targets squarely in the chest until she has to duck again. She'd spotted the Raider in the Power Armour who was hanging further towards the back where the shipping containers were. There was no way she or Piper would get a clear shot from where they were. "Cover me, Pipes! I'm going for the ladde-..." She glances towards the vehicle she'd seen Piper head for but there's no 'Press' cap peeking out from around the corner. "...Pipes? ...'ya gun jam or something?"
