Stick Season ~ Noah Kahan

Well, let's get right into it. The rest of that day I was pretty much constantly avoiding Alyssa, Will, and people in general.

After school, I, of course, had detention because of my stupid corset. I better have gotten that role, because that shit hurt so bad. I really did not want to go, because I figured Will would be there after what happened earlier that day.

And sure enough, when I walked around the corner to the detention area, I saw Will. I paused for a moment, looking at him. He was staring off into space, holding his chin up with his hand. Will notices me, grins, and starts waving. I stand there like a deer in headlights, about to head back around the corner, when I realize that I still have detention.

I sigh, then head inside the room. I sit down in the seat in front of Will, and take out my homework. Ugh. Math. Or is it English? I don't know, because they added fucking letters. It's so stupi-

"Ow!"

I say as I feel something sharp poke my back. I turn around to see Will, with his stupid, gorgeous, smirk. Wait did I say gorgeous? Let's forget I said that. I hiss at him.

"What do you want?"

"This Saturday. My Birthday Party. Bring your friends. Maximum of two. Trying to keep it small. It's at my place. 5:00 O'clock. Be there."

I stare at him, kind of shocked. Why would he want me there? It's not like he's ever hung out with me before.

"And if I'm not there?"

"I'd be very sad."

I roll my eyes, and turn back to my schoolwork.

"Hey, you two!"

Both myself and Will look up at the door to see Mr. Edgelle at the door.

"I talked to the staff, and we almost all agreed that instead of regular detention, those being punished would help with building the stage, painting sets, things like that, in order to prepare for the play."

Me and Will look at each other, then back up at Mr. Edgelle.

"So come along you two! We don't have all day now."

I stand up, gather my things, and follow Mr. Edgelle out the door. Will, Mr. Edgelle, and myself all head inside the auditorium.

"Alright you two, I'm going to be up those stairs working on lights. I want you to start painting that wall, it's supposed to be stone. See? It's already been started at the bottom there. Paint supplies are on that shelf there. I don't know where the stool is, but you two should be able to manage."

After saying this, Mr. Edgelle walks up the stairs, and Will heads over to the shelf. I quickly realize I can't reach the shelf that they're on.

"Hey, can you grab me a paint brush as well please?

He bends down to reach my eye level. I blush, as he's inches from my face.

"Sure. If you do something for me first."

"Yeah, what's up?

I say nervously, because he's still inches from me.

"Give me a kiss."

"What?"

"Give. Me. A. Kiss."

"I-I-I uhhh"

He chuckles, then reaches up over me, and grabs a paint brush. He holds it in front of me, and I grab it. He smirks, then backs away. I stand there in shock for a few moments, then join him in painting the wall.

It felt like forever before I was able to get up and go. I went outside to see Alyssa by my locker. She had waited for me. She's a real one.

"Hey"

I say, as I walk up to her.

"Hey! You good?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little tired. Hey, what are you doing this Saturday?"

She looks at me with a skeptical look, as we head outside and start walking out the door, and down the road.

"I don't think I'm doing anything. I was thinking about doing something with Oliver, but those plans aren't concrete. Why?"

"Well, I  got invited to a birthday party this Saturday, and I was told I could bring 2 people along with me. Since I don't really have any other friends, I was wondering if you and Oliver wanted to come?"

"Shut up! I'd love to come! Who's birthday party is it?"

This was a question I'd kinda been dreading.

"It's Will's, Will Thatcher."

"Oh? You know, a little birdie told me you and Will kissed while setting up the stage."

"What?" I chuckle nervously. "Who told you that?"

"I can't reveal my sources. But just know, I'll be there."

Damn it. I was hoping she'd be busy, so I don't have to go.

"Alright, fine."
