“Come in child.“ Macquarie heard the moment he knocked on the hard door. He opened the door and strolled in. Macquarie was still pondering why she'd called for him. Mr kelvin, a custodian who the kids nicknamed 'the man scared of cockroaches.' had told him Madame Nora Roberts, wants him in her office. The man had gotten the name when they saw him jump and wail when Mrs Sabrina told him the pest was resting on his shoulder. The cockroach had escaped. No one saw or found it.
“Good afternoon, Mrs Nora Roberts.“ His childish voice said. It was compulsory they added her surname when talking to her or maybe the name went good together.
“How're you today, child?“ she smiled at him. It was unusual to Macquarie. Nora Roberts never smiled to anyone. He guessed she was in a happy mood at the hour.
“I'm good.“ Macquarie replied.
“Come, sit.“ she beckoned. Macquarie's eyes now saw the man sitting on another chair. He wondered what was happening. Did he want to adopt him? Macquarie was thinking.
“This is Mr Darcy, from the musical cast in Wembley.“ she introduced him to the man that continued staring at him.
“Mr Darcy, he's who I talked to you about.“ she said to the man.
“Hello, Macquarie. I heard a lot from her about you.“ The man in his late forties said. Macquarie wasn't sure what he'd heard about him as he looked at the man staring intensely at his face.
“Macquarie, you'd sang with a beautiful voice days before. I shouldn't forget to compliment your tune.“ Mrs Nora Roberts pointed out. “Mr Darcy, is here to accomplish your dream of becoming a great star. Doesn't that sound awesome?“ The woman said to the young boy who couldn't understand all they were saying. “I'd called Mr Darcy immediately I listened to you sing. He came from a far destination just to hear you sing himself.“ Nora Roberts stopped talking. She expected he would utter something but the little child remained quiet. She continued. “He wants to hear you sing.“ she told Macquarie. “you should sing the exact way I'd heard you sing in the small hall.“ the woman told the blonde boy. “don't be scared. We just want to hear your rhythm.“ she was trying so hard to convince the little boy. Nora Roberts could sense the fear in the boy's eyes. It was clear he doesn't want to sing.
“What's going on. Why's he silent?“ Mr Darcy looked at Nora Roberts with surprise. He had been expecting the young boy to sing immediately he was told to. “what's wrong little boy.“ his hand went to Macquarie's shoulder.
Macquarie shook his head. “I don't want to sing.“ he says. The man's eyes went to the woman whose face was focused on the child. Nora Roberts was surprise also and was getting impatient but didn't want to show the act on the child. She knew she could lose chances of making the boy sing if she does. She knew how she reacts whenever she becomes impatient. Mrs Nora Roberts sighed deeply and said.
“Macquarie, what if I bring the best parents to adopt you. Isn't that what you always want. What if you can eat anything you want. What if you are able to wear the expensive clothing only the privileged are allowed to wear. It can only be possible if you sing now.“ she urged. Macquarie thought of it for awhile. He wanted to tell them something had helped him sing the way he had. He wanted to tell them he thinks it's the fairy with green eyes. Macquarie's mind was occupied.
“Mrs Nora Roberts, you see I left my town just to hear the angelic voice you made me believe there is.“ he was standing completely fed up. He knew the young child wouldn't eventually sing. “Seems it's not going to happen.“ he looked at her for a moment and took the big black bag laying on his feet. “it's going to take me 12 hours until I reach my destination.“ he glimpsed at his wrist. By his tone he was annoyed. Mrs Nora Roberts closed her eyes when she heard the door close. She opened them to point at the kid. The furiousness in her was rising. She'd been seen as a liar and Mr Darcy wouldn't trust her anymore.
“Why don't you want to sing?“ she had heaved a sigh to reduce the anger boiling inside of her.
“Because I wasn't the one that have done so.“ the boy said most honestly. The woman looked at him surprisingly. She was sure she'd seen him when he had sang. Mrs Nora Roberts tried not to be upset together with the anger.
“Are you trying to play with me, kid?“ she said to the boy.
“I'm not, Mrs Nora Roberts.“ Macquarie said calmly. “i didn't sing all alone. Something had helped me.“ The boy was telling her. She looked at him for sometime without saying anything.
“Tell me, what?“ she asked.
“I think it's the faires.“ he hoped she would believe him. He hadn't told anyone else.
“What faires?“ Nora Roberts blinked. Macquarie looked at her look at him like he was insane. “I know how much you don't want to sing, but what you don't know is how it would be helping you. Macquarie, the man that had just left is a millionaire who had trained and is still training the best artists worldwide.“ Nora Roberts wondered if the young boy was understanding what she was saying. Nora Roberts was trying to convince him to make money for the orphanage. At least a reasonable percentage of what he would make would be hers. She wouldn't have to depend on the funds from the people and foundations. Her dream of owning a car would be accomplished. If only he accepts to let that same voice she'd heard him sing with out to the world. The thoughts were clouding her mind. She needs to make more money and live off the best life she deserves.
“Go, think about it. I would be hearing from you as soon as possible.“ her voice sounded as a warning. She hoped the boy would say, 'I'm ready now,' as she watched him leave. Nora Roberts immediately thought of something, she would have to threaten him.
